Best ideas for filming yourself on video - whilst riding :)

Taking pictures is easy, you can set up a tripod or similar and ride past and then wander back to your camera....
    Even filming yourself is easy...
BUT, what about filming yourself when riding from a front on perspective? (Nigel no mates esp)
This would give the video a great deal of variety rather than cockpit cam....as most of us do.
I know GoPro has a pole, and this got me thinking...
From a second hand shop buy an old fishing rod and throw it out the front at an angle to capture you as if you were following BBC1 camera man
I am thinking of trying this and with the angle of the lens, the pole will not be seen if it is strategically placed.....

What say you guys? I would be interested to hear from all of you expert cameramen/women out there....
    Might give it a go

    Sounds like jousting... or harpooning.

I stick my go pro in all sorts of odd places, some work better than others. I think you would need to use at least a 24kg rated game rod to minimise the wobble at the tip.
At the very least you would need something triangulated, firmly attached to sprung, immobile parts of the bike. Certainly doable, not sure how the feds would view it, though. Having said that, you would only really be talking a few inches ahead of the front wheel.
    Next.

I guess you don't see to many popos where you ride..

Or Impaling! Yeah, dumb Idea, really. What WAS he thinking I guess holding the little POV 1.5 lens in front of me and to the side on a straight bit of road will suffice

Well, that's two of us have had the same dumb idea. I filed it in the "takes too much effort box", I can't even edit properly so it's pretty pointless for me.

To keep yourself in shot the camera has to be static so it needs to be mounted from engine bars or some such. To stop up & down movement you need a third, central, mounting point. This means you can only ride in a straight line..
Or. Make up a wee frame from light aloominum tubing & have the camera in a position looking back down at you. The mounting points would have to be far enough back to avoid the bars as they turn but again, doable.
Or. Get your fishing rod, attach it behind you & tie it down to the head stock, forming a curve over you. Then from the apex of the curve attach a straight bit of tube or summat with the camera on the end.
I'm a great fan of the Heath Robinson school of design.

It's doable, go forth & pontificate.

you can buy an item like that. attaches to the helmet and can be made to swivel or stay in one place, fucked if I know where youd find it though, but you could make one if you put the time in no doubt.

I can hardly afford Reg now on two bikes, let alone pay for a WOF and a Reg for a trailer carrying a fucking little camera...
I think the pole would exclude the video from going viral too .....But thanks, nice idea....Bring it on!
On the negative side to this idea, wouldn't last long on a NZ road....haha

I do believe the OP is male and one butt cam vid is enough. Nevertheless, lateral thinking. Be a short vid on gravel...

The vid of you taking the trailer in for a warrant might go viral. VTNZ is the place, no sense of humour in my experience.

You are talking about motorcycling aren't you? If you posted that on any other porno forum you'd get many more answers!
