Advice on possible purchase, GSX-R750 2002

So I've seen a bike I really like. It done 50,000ks, looks mint and only wants $5200 for it.
It's got lots of extras etc, yellow and black, had an oil and filter service recently.

Now, issue is I can't confirm how much service history this bike has, but for $5000 is expecting a fsh too much?

The bike is in Hamilton, have any of you guys paid a company to go and check bikes out to give the all clear before you buy?

Yes.

Not so much because of the price but the age. Most people don't keep most bikes all that long and it's likely to have a had at least one owner who has failed to keep record or pass it on to the next buyer.

At 11 years old some bikes will have a FSH, most won't.

Bargain, not even run in yet. Just taken my 98 past 99999km. Mine has been owned form new and only been to workshop for shim checks at 24 50 and 75 and couple of other things like main swingarm bearing (too many big stoppies) and wheel bearings at about 74000km. All oil changes (done way ahead of factory schedules and with filter), spark plugs airfilet etc done by me. Was keeping receipts but things get lost etc...
You can't go wrong, lot of bike for that money.

Perhaps ask the owner to take the bike to a shop for a pre purchase appraisal with you paying.

Boyd Suzuki or Honda Hamilton carry this out for you but you may like to check out pricing and areas that they would cover.

Sounds like a good buy if it checks out fine.

I reckon you could most likely get it for 4.8-9 k. Age and kilometers on the clock don't count anywhere near as much as how the bike has been treated in that time. My 89 ZXR750 sailed through it's wof yesterday, and the mechanics eyebrows shot up when he saw I'd piled on over 13000 km's since the last one, most he had seen he said, but it is a rural town shop and the farmers prob don't do epics on their ATV's like I do on my bike. My bike is still purring like a kitten and required just basic maintenance during that time. I recommend you invest a little money in getting it checked over at a reputable bike shop, a compression test should also be involved. If you do get it, replace the fluids as a matter of course.

Thanks for all your advice. I've tried to haggle the price a little, but don't want to take the piss too much. I've also seem an R6 I like the look of, but that's a different debate and there's around a million threads comparing the two! Ill get a pre-purchase check done and see how that goes.
