    New bike - Honda XR250!

Finally got back on a bike after a couple year hiatus!

Just bought myself a Honda XR250, smoking a little but pulls great and is a ball cruising round the streets.

Already thinking of a hundred mods, first up will be a new filter and oil, new mirrors. Replace the fork boots with some black ones. New chain, and maybe a smaller rear sprocket to give me some better motorway performance.
Need to put a key switch in (it's a dirt bike so no key ATM), front shocks need work, and front brakes need bleeding or something. Pillion pegs as the wife wants a ride.
Road tyres! Got a set of multipurpose tyres on there now and some dirt ones as spare.
And finally get the frame powder coated black... Mmm.

Pretty stoked with it can't wait to get used to riding a dirt bike the road a bit more- has been strange with such high seat and wide bars.

Good little workhorses them, fun around town, or on the back roads.

yeah, theyll be fine...youll get the hang of them, see them as road tyres with bigger rain grooves lol. im pretty carefull with any tyre in the wet, road tyres are twitchy and have their moments too. im using full knobs on my dr650, and whilst its not for everyone theyre suprisingly good on the road, so by contrast those 80/20's are a sporty road tyre hehe.

A new chain if it needs it ... but don't bother with trying to gear it up. It is a 250 ... and if it's smoking ... probably a little tired too. You will only get the (if any) increase in "Motorway Performance" with a tail wind. Add a pillion into the equation ...

The tires you have on it will be fine for now ... save your money for getting the brakes sorted and a WOF.

True true, yeah bought a new filter and oil yesterday just have to fit now.
Has anyone used that additive stuff that you put in your old oil before changing, that's many to help clear up old deposits? Don't know specifically what brand or product just heard of it, might be a Wynns thing or something?

Forget the additive's ... cheaper to just do another oil change (leave the new filter in place) after a short ride. Drain while it's warm ...

Any "deposits" left wont be worth the worry ...

Didn't know they had an oil filter. I had an XR250rc, XL250r and an XR500rc and I don't remember any oil filters.

As i am flying soon so i am now starting to get a little worried about the service quality in the aircraft industry......

yes Jason all Honda 4 strokes have filters!
A lot of the singles are centrifugal ones mounted on the primary drive side.
They work like a sludge trap on a crankshaft.
