Some people are only alive because it is illegal to shoot them.
Every statistician knows that no data is actually better than incorrect data. And that a small accurate sample is much better than a 100% sample, that is full of rubbish.
Thats one of the reasons you can be sure the census is about collecting personal information not statistical information.
A voluntary sample would give high quality data. Thats what a statistician would really want.
But most of this thread is about people discussing what garbage they are going to put on the form.
I will quietly be joining you all. I will put nothing on the form that is correct.

Leave the country for the day. The census forms are only required by law to be completed ... IF you are in New Zealand (or its territories) at the time of census.
The Wizard of Christchurch had his own method of doing this ...
From the Census site ..
Filling in census forms is required by law. Under the Statistics Act 1975, everyone in New Zealand on census day must fill in a census form. You could be fined if you don't participate or if you provide false or incomplete information.
If legal action becomes necessary, the fine is up to $500, with a further $20 a day for each day after conviction until the person completes the forms.
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...
well, guess i'll take my door off and stick it out on the road then... get my rocking chair out and polish my shotgun...
huh. legally newzealand is actually only "the territorial waters of" - admiralty law doesn't extend the legislation to cover land. and i'm on land.
