Selling bike from abroad in NZ

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody here ever sold a secondhandbike comming from europe on the NZ market. I am planning on selling my bike after my trip and shipping it back to Belgium to sell it there just seems like a waste of money.

Who knows what costs/steps it would take it if could sell it over there ?

if you are bring your bike over to ride for your trip, you will be shipping it back home else
customs will be having another large bite of the cherry..



either you factor in shipping costs towards a bike and take a hit on selling once finished
or factor in how long you are going to be here vs cost of bike hire.

Not worth it whan you do the maths.
Better to come over and buy a bike, then sell back to the seller/dealer. You may get an agreed price.

Tell you what I will do, because you seem to be an alright bugger, and I am also a good bugger, I will hold onto the bike for you once you have finished with it, and send you the money once sold.

Trust me, I know what Im doing.

Cool, i sounds like a good plan ! i was first thinking of selling it for a price and give the buyer a chanse to make a profit on it, but this sounds better !

Tagger-what year/make/model is the bike? Where are you thinking of shipping it from?
How much will it sell for over there?
I import vehicles for a living so have a perhaps better than average knowledge of the costs involved.

To cover off some stuff for you.
If you intend to import the bike and sell it here after a few months then you will pay customs GST of 15% of the bikes value.
The way round this is to either bring it in on a Carnet which is a bond you will take it back home with you.
OR stay here with the bike for more than three years.
If intending to sell it here you will need to deregister the bike back home and make sure you have all the registration and DE registration paperwork for it.
Once here it will have to be complied.if a UK bike then no issue it should be fine. If a bike from say france you may have to get a headlight that dips left fitted.-might be cheaper to source one before leaving.
compliance will cost roughly $600 including 6 months rego (road tax)

It's a yamaha fazer6-sa 2007 made for mainland europe (right side of road-drivers). While it is a perfectly fine bike, the actual value on the second hand market may not be that much if you calculate all the expenses that come with importing it.

The initial plan was to sell it over here before i left which would leave me some money in my bankaccount to spend on a secondhand one.

Best plan would be to sell over there and start scouring trade me, for something you might like to ride over here !

Hey Sinfull,

I am sure that people around here are great , that's the good thing about bikers, anywhere in the world when they meet, they are always eagered to help each other out !

I'm only comming over at the end of the year so there is plenty of time to figure everything out (important to figure this stuff out first because i'm not made out of money so prefer to spend it wisely :P)

I'm keeping an eye on trademe, it's really helping me to form an idea about the price, thanks !
