Washing bikes breaks them washed mine and it wouldn't start the next day.

Mine gets washed when I've been through road works so I don't let any corrosive cement dust eat through the waffer thin paint ro when I want to give the bike a good look over to make sure it's sound.

I used to have a special liquid in the UK that I would coat the bike with that stopped salt and corrosives harming the bike. Just a rinse of with the hose and all was good, jst didn't look all gleamy and shining. It's the same stuff they put on planes, the only problem I found was that at speed the front wheel started to go really light and was prone to lift

I used to use a rag with WD40 (CRC) and wipe the bike over. Nice clean and a bit of protection.

LPS3 does the same thing your special liquid did/does.
Buy it in a spray can at your local engineers supply shop.
Don't get it on those round black things though.

When I am bored! Cleaning is good for checking items that you might otherwise not notice.

I'm constantly have to don gloves to wipe up fluid deposits left on my bike. Keeping the bike well polished helps, as the man jam can't penetrate the paint job.

Clean it when she needs it or when I'm avoiding doing something around the house, or the missus.
