    I need some advice

Im looking to buy my first bike and at the moment, I have my eye on a suzuki tu250x cafe racer that looks as though it has had quite a bit of work done on it though it has done $90,000kms, the guy wants $1200 for it. the second bike is a Honda VT250z 1988 that has done 56,000kms and is in good condition, the guy wants $1200 for it aswell. Im just wondering how many km's is to many km's for a 250cc road bike and im looking for some advice on what one I should go for!!!

The number of total km's really isn't the big issue. Condition of the bike ... work done on it ... work needing done on it .... ??? But higher km's on a little bike is not a good thing. But can be overlooked on a good example.

If it's cheap. And you know you wont keep it long before a bigger bike comes along ... go for it.

The biggie ... how it has been ridden and looked after during its life (ie: serviced regularly) is the important one.

If the rego is on hold ... factor that cost in too.
No WoF ... and needs a tyre (or two) ... brake pads needed ... lights not working ... and any other bits that need sorting before it can be legal .... you do the sums ...

Really liking either bike .... does not equate to the "right" choice either.

Cafe racer ... been pranged and rebuilt cheap to "Flash up" for sale ... Get the owner to WoF check (and get/see a copy of the test sheet) before you offer/pay a single cent.

Don't go near ANY 250 single that's actually managed to do 90,000km's.

of the two, i'd go the hodna, and i fucking hate honda.

ideally, save another 4k, spend the 1200 on gear and 4k on a bike.

you're no longer limited to 250cc either. googley googley.

    Both good learners bikes....
the TU is basically a GN 250 (engine) and even in the motor shits itself, thousands lurk in sheds, breakers on tard me.... so if you like the cafe racer? But saying that, at 90k on the motor you would have to buy it EXPECTING to replace/rebuild it.

VT honda bloody good bike for a 250, reliable, solid,,, and only half the K's,, So if it has been well looked after, regular servicng, (have they ot receipts? Or can tell you what shop did them? Out of the 2 I'd go the Honda....
BUT,,,, it's the age of 'LAMS'.... there are bikes up to 650 you can give a serious look at.
