    Scooters do matter!

This picked up from another forum...

"Hey, douche on a scooter, next time you undertake me at the lights by driving up the footpath then swerving in front of me from nowhere, I won't bother swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid you ok? You'll just meet my bull bars. They love the taste of inconsiderate douche bags."

    Well done scooter rider!

To be fair. if he used the footpath to jump the traffic,

He probably deserves a good slap. Seen some pretty shocking behaviour by scooter riders. It's like they think they are 10 years old and somone put a motor on their BMX sometimes! ... some motorcyclists are as bad too.

As some time rider of a 25 year old Yammy 200 scootah I have observed that car drivers have even less respect for them. Saying that those 50cc ones are a pita as you pass them...they creep to the front of the queue...then you pass them againg.....repeat all way up Dom Rd.....
Can't see why they are ok to ride on a car licence and the 200 attracts under 600 cc rego.....
The Yammy has been fitted with an air horn by a PO.....comes in handy.

Like the learner, just on dawn , on Blenheim road CHCH. Last Monday
Comes up to a "just" turning red light, hangs a left using the give way free turn, does an immediate u turn behind the car setting at the light, hangs a left back into Blenheim road on the green, from the side street....WTF!

Perfectly legal provided there's no sign advising "No U-Turn" Risky maneuver in heavy traffic though!

High risk? Early morning, with next to no traffic? If there's any risk when there isn't much traffic around maybe you are the risk?

The consequences of screwing it up on a bike are far more severe!

I saw a kid on a scooter jump the footpath at a red light and go with the pedestrians crossing signal, then back onto the road to go straight ahead. Why is it you never see a cop when this stuff happens? ... Because said cop is hiding on an onramp somewhere enforcing a misguided war on speed that should be replaced with a war on stupidity.

you have to do it to understand it, the risk is not from cars on the road, but the cars going onto the road , out of driveways, in the early morning, just as you pass their gate.......they leave for work, assuming because its early, nobody is there, and they back out at full speed into an ""empty street"", you get no warning.

I had my trolling green/comic sans font on. Just yanking ya chain.

Not to mention cars driving with the windows so frosted over they can't see, cars forgetting to turn their lights on and no one driving at night is actually awake.

i had a work friend do the right thing at queen/victoria pedestrian crossing last year.he got off his scooter and walked it with the pedos with the engine still running.he slipped or something and must have stuck the throttle full on,and it launched itself into a walking pedo and knocked him for six.he got charged for dangerous use of a motor vehicle.
as for doing silly stuff on a scooter,i do crazy shit all the time, some legal(most not)but its fun and one of the joys of scooter riding in traffic, try it cause its more fun than on a real bike

It would be hypocritical of me to tut tut too much. heh. I spent quite a few years riding wee trailies in big, busy, congested cities. My yoofull mentality turned obstacles, round abouts, kerbs, traffic islands etc into opportunities. Our mantra was "if you could see over a round about you could ride over it".
