    Is it legal?

hi, had "discussion" with mrs's yesterday after i was followed by cop through road works while standing up on bike ala..." ï'm in the paris dakar and crossing the desert" I didn't know he was there and luckily was practising my slow ride tec at 30kph. so no big hassle....but she reckons it's actually ilegal to ride on the road standing up....as no rear vision in mirrors etc...i say bull as long as ya not breaking speed limit and are in full control of your bike it can't be illegal. who can settle this for us?

Oh interesting point. maybe if you post or ask in the bikers & law thread as there are a few cops there - Rastus cat & Scum dog.
I have heard in Canada now you can get pinged for 'stunting' if you have one hand off the bars.

I spose different bikes have different standing characteristics. i was was following a guy standing on the pegs on a naked FZ like bike with a huge back pack on - that couldn't have been comfortable.

This has come up in Aussie as well, with people being pinged over there...don't know the answer here. Please report back if you find 'hard' data on this.

+1 I've herd that the constabulary...constibulily....err police in Victoria where motorcyles are compared to weapons of mass destruction will slap you with a fine for standing on the pegs. Havn't herd of anyone local getting fined for it. Although I do know someone who got a ticket for riding too close to the centre line so failing to keep left. though that was a bit picky but he was riding a Harley so fair enough I spose
    ....wherezz that track go

this has also come up in some states in the USA recently too, I recall browsing a thread where one state had passed into law a passage that read soething along the lines of the hands and feet must be on the handlebars and footpags, and the rider must be seated at all times while operating the vehicle - that particular example was to do with stunting, and thusly, anyone caught riding while standing up was up for charges and fines related to stunting on a public road

There's plenty of valid reasons to stand, I do it any time it gives me a better view to start with.

If it happens to be on some local proscribed bahaviour list that's tough, they can get fukt.

The road code says to stand on your pegs when crossing unstable ground such as a fallen tree branch. I guess they are trying to stop 'stunt riding' on the road but...
Sometimes after you've been riding a while, it's nice to give your butt a rest by standing for a bit

If that is all he could say was no rear vision in the mirrors, then adjust one mirror for standing up and one for sitting down after all you only require one mirror legally to get a WOF.

I guess for this arrangement to work, you have to do one first before you stand though aye? Someone could be a tad upset....

I know of no law that says it is illegal.

Perhaps you should ask the "Mrs" which law it is breaking since she believes this.

With her hands? Or does she just headbutt you in the butt every time you touch the brakes?
