    Don't ride with strangers

Mama always said don't talk to strangers. But she never said don't ride with them? Lesson learnt today I think. Arranged to go for a ride at 7.30pm and let the more experienced, stranger lead. Knew I was very new to riding and don't like to go fast... took me out to Muriwai when it started getting dark... uh oh warning bells I might as well have ridden by myself they were so far ahead of me for 90% of the time and didn't wait for me, well i think the speed at which they were going their definiton of waiting is different to that of mine... Got to some car park that looked over the water, stayed there for all of 5 minutes then when they took off I'm pretty sure they hit the concrete retaining wall? Anyway I ended up riding all the way home pretty much alone from Muriwai. Took the sign to Albany thinking there'd be street lights to aid my unexperienced self... um no... seemed like the roads were super twisty and never ended! Finally got to Albany... phew... I should have turned around when they started getting their knee down on corners and at least a couple of times crossed onto the opposite side of the road to take what I think was racing lines? (what do I know). But should have known when they didn't really wait for me... oh well a rides a ride eh but won't do that again.. Oh just to clarify I'm not being ungrateful, I'm just more like... wtf?

Just do like Monkfish and treat it as a sight-seeing experience, so go ride anytime, anywhere at your own pace and leisure... Like him, you'll end up with thousands of Ks on the clock in a short time, have loads more fun and are more relaxed.

And you need to come to SASS every Wednesday [safe skills development and learner-friendly rides]!

Dark unfamiliar roads always seem to take ages to get through. No matter how experienced you are.

I have known some who have done the same. I often think to myself " wow, so you can ride a bike faster than me....a motorbike, not discover a wonder drug, not engage in major social reform....you can ride a motorbike faster than me".

How insecure do you have to be to find your self esteem in a motorbike?

Always choose to ride a route that you can complete on your own, preferably without getting lost around dark, that way when inconsiderate riding "companions" leave you behind you're happy to ride on your own. If the idea is to ride together, then it is courteous for riders to stick together as much as possible; some people though have different ideas of what makes a "group ride".

I don't know what was going through his head. He seemed friendly enough, as a person but they were the one keen to go for a ride and I don't see the point of going on a ride with someone else and leaving them for dust I get that I'm nowhere near as fast or as good but I did warn them lol

He was probably trying to impress you with his penis extension.

Hell yes. I've done what I'm sure is the same road with NASS twice and this seemed to go on for thrice as long, lol
