The wee feelers on sportsbike pegs are there for a reason. It's not a very good reason, just the maker's lean angle limit, which means fuck all given the number of variables on any given day.

Li'l concerned that I've ground a few mm off both pegs on the new Buell, hardly ever even flicked them on the first XB12X I had.

Cruisers scrape pegs on straight roads if there is a bit of a side wind. Now try scaping pegs on an adventure bike. That is worth noting.

If I had a Knee down on my boulevard id be quite concerned... because my face is sure to follow.

I know cruisers scrape during low speed manouvers, tis the nature of the beast. But I do think scraping at speed is a different animal, last night the mentor at SASS (sis) said when she scraped her Harley on the open road the pipes hit first and decided to unload the suspension mid corner, that would have been fun!

Well, I have no idea how you ride (I'm not a KB genius yet, sorry!) but I suggest working on your riding style and lines, body positioning etc and see (carefully) if you're able to stroll through a corner much faster without having the bike drag on the ground. One common thing is to be off the gas in the corner, just keeping the gas cracked open can help a lot.

Now I've said that, if you go lowside your shiny beast, I claim no responsibility

XB12X needed a 'gravity well' corner to scrape the pegs. There's one just north of Whitianga.

Most Adventure bikes are pretty easy to scrape pegs on. Last V-Strom I tested was dead easy. Statement about the handling competency of the bike/s rather than any clearance shortcoming. BMW R1200GS no so easy from memory good clearance and handling. Stelvio do-able with effort. Varadero same as a Strom. That Moto Morini didn't touch down with mild flogging. KLR at the roundabout exiting the estate.

The secret to motoring quicker on a Cruiser is not getting a knee down - but getting a cheek off.
Slide the buttocks off the saddle and hook the seat with the high-side knee. The near side knee tends to go outwards not down. Basically get as much mass working as far away from the bike and as low as possible - outrigger style.

But if that is what you bought it for you have the wrong bike anyway.

Dammit Dave, I was hoping to chime in first

My current ride has clearance of just over 4 inches - which is not very much at all. The hero knobs disappeared off the pegs in the first week.

Lately however I have been having a lot more fun, and moving along quite...swiftly, by playing with 2 concepts.

Firstly, as BD just said, getting my arse off the seat. Improves the lean angle immensely. You really cant believe it until you do it

Secondly, I like to see how far I can go without using my brakes.

Combine that with my own preference for the "slow in - fast out" corner approach and I am having a great deal of fun, at speeds on or under the limit (mostly) and still getting plenty of time to stop for a smoke while waiting for the peg scrapers to catch up

Followed a guy on a VTX and there were sparks flying on every corner. Looked cool but we were doing well below the speed limit and well below the limits of most normal bikes and riders.

    Yep, scraping is slow

Not to say it can't be fun. My previous ride had footboards and on some corners I used to be able to scrape them allllll the way round, yeehaw

You seem to indicate that this is a problem?

These are machines that are enjoyable without pushing limits. That's their point.

If you are riding them so they are 'unloading the suspension' regularly (I like that term thanks) it will cost heaps in replacement parts.

Harden up for christs sakes, take the pegs off.
