problems with my FXR150

ouch. ever tried kickstarting a bike with just socks on? oh yeah my kickstart sometimes sticks as well. hence the pain. Anyhow, started it, lights bright, held horn button down, nothing, revved to probably around 10k (not sure, as the screen pooed itself again as i revved it) and no response from horn. Lights dimmed as well.

SOUNDS LIKE THE CHARGING SYSTEM , FIND THE REGULATOR RECTIFIER AND MAKE SURE THE TERMINALS ARE NOT BURNT OUT, THEY MAY EVEN BE WARM .
IF I WERE THERE I COULD TELL YOU FOR SURE , A LOCAL AUTO ELECTRICIAN MAYBE HELPFULL

simple test-real easy--run some jumper leads off of a car -to the battery--if the bike starts on the lekky start then ya knowat the least the battery is flat

Gotta watch out for those Burt fuses, they are almost as bad as the Ernie's

i read somewhere that theres a flaw in the design of FXRs. about 20cm or so back from the steering head theres a bunch of wires along the left that run into the frame with very little insulation around them. if you drop the bike or twist the bars a little too much they get crushed against the frame and wear through the insulation. the result is some popped fuses due to shorting.
wouldnt explain the starter motor, but might help....

GENUINE YUASA BATTERY LASTS ABOUT 5 YEARS , AFTER MARKET IS ABOUT 2/3 YEARS

Sorry WINJA, YUASA don't even last 2 yrs. Have one sitting on my garage shelf waiting to be recycled.

I'm now running an after market brand for the simple reason, YUASA batteries cost $105-$120 and have 3mth warranty. My HiVolt (?) brand was $60 and has 12mth warranty. Bike shops kept telling me YUASA are a good brand, but sorry, if they really had faith in their batteries they'd give a longer warranty.

Be warned that a dead battery might result in your ignition unit blowing up, = $$$.

Then why they have such a short warranty period?

Life of a battery is generally 2x the warranty period.

Warrenty on the battery is for constant use, not for sitting on a shelf. Think about it. What do part dealers and things do with car batteries that are a year old ect?

thanks frosty tried it last night. Dad connected the leads to my battery, taps the clips together and hey wow! no spark. connected them to the car battery and electric start worked, screen worked, lights stayed strong even while revving, everything perfect. I'll take note of that, don't buy a YUASA battery. I'll also try not to ride it until i get a new battery so i don't screw the ignition. I think the battery is busted, not dead, cause it never recharges, even after riding for an hour or more. thanks for everyone's help

Anybody heard of a battery called Dynacolt? I've got a YT-5L BS dynacolt battery in it. guy at the shop i just called said it sounds like a special drycell battery, expensive. can anybody confirm this? He also said that YUASA was the only battery they use in the motorcycle industry, and i was like huh? Should I get another battery the same, or a cheapy taiwanese thing for like $30?
