My 2 cents: The thieves could be drug dealers (I had a drug dealer tell me he could get me anything for bike real cheap but couldn't tell me where he would get it from...). Bastards. I hope you get your bike back mate!
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

But is it? I do this all the time if I've popped into town for some shopping. In fact it's probably less obvious if a guy with a helmet walks up to a bike, fiddles with it for a bit then jumps on and rides off.
Remember to never split an infinitive. The passive voice should never be used. Do not put statements in the negative form. Proofread carefully to see if you words out. And don't start a sentence with a conjugation. (William Safire)

The majority of bikes stolen are opportunistic thefts. The guys that are stealing them are doing it on a regular basis. They will drive through town scoping out bikes & may do regular drive by's to scope targeted bikes.. They use a van with an old mattress/es in the back to minimise damage. some use a skateboard to roll the front if a bike has a disc lock & there's only 2 of them. It takes less than a minute & they're gone...They generally work in teams. They have a large network of associates & contacts readily willing to pay for them(at bargain prices of course) & some will then dismantle them for sale but many will conceal their identity by filing off numbers etc. & use them for a little while before flicking them off to their dodgy mates. the old gsxr engines used to be a hot item with the speedway crowd(the dodgy ones) who would cut the box off(the bit with the no.s on it) or simply raid them for the internals to support their race program. they ask no questions and are only too happy to receive a bargain. Occasionally bikes are stolen to order because some dick has trashed his.
There is a market for cheap parts & the theives know it. what is not needed is generally dumped in the water or buried.
dirtbikes/quads end up being used on the beach or farm.
This is what I have found out through my enquiries..
    ..it's another red light nightmare..

As for the bike thieves... yeah not good. We used to have someone here from that GPS mapping jobbie thing (jrandom) - wonder what technology is out there to track 'em if/when they get nicked?

Yeah I’ve had 2 dirt-bikes stolen. First one a couple of decades ago was from a garage in Wainui, it was a PE175 (don't laugh it was hot shit back then, well ok, maybe warm shit. . . Ok it was just shit, but we were 16) I went halves with a friend cause neither of us could afford it outright. Was gutted, only rode it once. Wish we hadn’t kept it at his place, just no one had trailers (or cars) to move it around.

Next one more recently was a watercooled DT200 I had lent to a mate & was in his van along with his YZ. He should have parked it back in the garage.

A friend who was off work heard some bikes being ridden down nearby, recognised my DT & called the cops, then collared the kids riding it. They were given it by some S’head (they no doubt helped) but the kids fingered this other guy so our two guys got the YZ as well (after a lot of shagging around they had to deal with the crim, Police wouldn’t act). This guy was supposedly heading for jail for other more serious contributions to society.

There is no justice & the law system isn’t capable or willing to do squat. I suspect any decent dirtbikes are shipped to another major city & sold to unsuspecting punters for real prices so no one suspects.

I curse the bastards everytime moving bikes around the garage is such a pain with a multitude of cables chains & locks, but if they are all connected to something it makes the job a lot harder for them.

Problem with dirt-bikes is you have to wash them, if you live on a main street then people will know you have them.

Any bleeding heart liberal who claims that jail sentences don’t stop people offending & it is so expensive to keep someone in jail, smack them around the head with a big fish (maybe it will teach them math). These are the dicks who keep it so the crims know they can keep re-offending with little consequence.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
