"If the police catch you doing something naughty and you have a camera can they take it and review the footage or do they need a warrant?"
Yes they can take it and they don’t need a warrant. It doesn’t make any difference if its password protected. Search and Surveillance Act 2012 refers.

    uhg. That f*ing act again.
Reassword, unsure if all or evn most cameras do it. My phone supports encryptioo for both c drive and card, and can be hard locked by remote.

Most devices are hackable if you know what you are doing.

One of the biggest myths of the modern world is that the camera never lies. It may show a true and accurate representation - of what it sees. It can't show what it's not pointing and and, therefore, can be very misleading. There was at least one video posted on KB that led to a certain conclusion; only to have that conclusion blown out of the water when the footage from the other vehicle was viewed also.

I think that was more to do with items on a computer that was in for repairs.

Create a partition. Some creating software lets you put a password on for a partition. never tried for a sd card but it works fine for usb hard drive/flash/pen drives.

They can't recover a memory card that you've crushed with your teeth. (well ok maybe in the case of a serious crime they would at least try, potentially successfully, but they do not have the resources or dollars to do that with traffic offences) Pop that shit out and chomp chomp, if it comes to it.

A micro SD card is so small that it would be a lot easier to just swallow it. Stomach acids should take care of the rest.

Im pretty sure there was a hang glider/ sky dive instructor who tried that when his client fell to their death... I think the cops just locked them up for a few days and did the whole "sort through the poo till we find it" trick

no it was concerning cellphone that cops took and looked through, the admissability of evidence.
It was ruled that if it didnt have a password, there was no expectation of privacy.
@other guy, cannuk law is good and democratic and suffers the same faux monarchy nz does. Case law= precedent and must be considered for nz rulings.
