    Track day - Insurance question

    Hey guys,

I'm really keen to do the track day at Pukekohe this saturday but my insurance (Swann) say they wont cover me.

I remember some time ago, someone posted saying their insurance considered it "rider training".

I have tried searching the threads but couldn't find it.

    Any help is appreciated.

It depends exactly on your policy. Some policies state that as long as it is not a 'race', you will still be covered. This typically means the track is considered a 'closed road' and the 'event' may not be timed or start with a 'grid' (hence the starting from the pit lane, or 'dummy grid').
In the end, it depends on your policy.

I'm with State, and they cover anyone with full insurance, as long as *it is not a timed event or race*.. there's the clause. Some insurance companies will just refuse outright. If you have called them saying you're going to hoon around a race track, call them back and say it's a public open day on a track, not a race or timed event. You might be covered. Else see if you can buy a day cover if you really want.. or just go easy

Yeah, I called Swann, and insisted that they double check and they said definitely no.

I prepared to change insurance companies over this but I'm not prepared to ride the track without insurance.

So apart from State (dont like them much) who else has managed to get cover for the track??

I'm with Star Insurance & my policy says:-
"does not cover any loss or Liability while any insured motoercycle is :
    1. (a) being used for any professional or business use unless notified and accepted by the Company, or any racing, pacemaking, reliability trial, hill climbing or speed tests, motor cross, trail riding or off road recreational activity, or being ridden in preparation for any one of these activities"

Should be O.K. ?? When I do a track day I will get someone to give me some advice & therefore I am doing rider training.

I kinda want to have a small accident, just so on the claim form when it asks how fast you were travelling prior to the accident, I can put 250kph+..

but then I don't want to damage my bike, or me, or have my policy go up..

Try Classic Cover in Hamilton Mate. I have got mine through them - they cover track days as you propose to partake in.

Hi Duckman. 5 bucks more than what? What is your premium and excess. Ta. I'm with Classic and going thru a claim now so it will be interesting to how things will go.

watch for the excess.. some places have a 25% of the value excess.. which is mental at the best of times..
