Bayride Motorcycles full of it, or what?

Can't seem to edit post title so I will put this here for now - I am not attacking Bayride Motorcycles as a business. I apologise to Bayride as that seems to be how this post was interpreted. For all I know, they're amazing. What woun
d me up was that their advertising technique seemed a little dishonest... Unfortunately for Bayride at the time this combined with a few beers provided me with the perfect platform for launching from my soap box to my high horse at full gallop. If a mod could change the post topic to something less inflammatory that would be amazing..

Was browsing trademe, as you do and came across an interestingly worded ad for a Yamaha R15... A bit of digging showed the exact wording on the dealer's website

Now the last two paragraphs are pulled straight from the Yamaha site, that's cool.. But is it just me or are the first two complete fiction? Last i checked, Yamaha R15 = ~16.8HP and CBR250 = ~23.7HP... a 6.9HP deficit.. NOT 2 as stated..

Is this even legal? Im not looking to buy one, but surely anyone that bought one after reading that spiel would be rather disappointed?

Meh, no big deal since most bikers with experience tend to shy away from bikes with horsepower ratings that involve a decimal place...let alone only two numbers in front of the decimal point

I had one as a loner for a day or so, it got to 115 ok, but the bike would not be comfortable there for too long...a fun little bike in the tighter stuff if you lock it in 3rd and keep it around 8000 rpm.

Bayride's management are some of the straightest people I have enjoyed the pleasure of doing business with in both directions.
If you have a problem call Lindsay on 07 5713040 ext 4 & take it up with the man directly.
Im sure you will recieve both a plesant & humble reception from him & this very serious issue will be remidied forthwith.
If it cant wait, post your phn number up & I could have him call you this arvo if you like.
Im sure he would love to discuss the title of this thread with you, if nothing else.

Hmmmmm....could be that a dyno test was done (somehwere) and those figures used. Who knows? Incidently the Yam comes in about 92 KW/t and the Honda 109 KW/t on manufacturers figures according to my ginger and thumb calcs.

To OP: Are all the ads misleading, and (in your view) "full of shit"? or just this one? If it's just this one, then I'd say your title was factually incorrect. If however a nearby sewer has burst and flooded the premises..................

The misleading advertising does not warrant a libelous comment in public forums.

And the few posts you have made in the two and a half years since joining this site ... has not been enough to warrant any creditable support for your opinion.

+1 to that.

That advertising just seems like the standard "stretching the truth a wee bit" rather then blatantly false. Certainly, it's well below "does anyone really care" standards.

If it bothered you that much, you would have been better off sending them an email pointing out they're stretching the truth a wee bit far.

But lets be honest, does it really fucking matter? 2ponies 6ponies i doubt anyone is going to notice or care about the difference. It's nitpicking at best.

Save it for when it matters.
