Matahiwi Track experiences?

Matahiwi track runs between the near top of the Parapara h/way, and ends somewhere on the Whanganui river road.
The road is sealed from the para end, and i guess it peeters into a gorse covered, papa clay filled goat track as it progresses towards the river.
Anyone got experience/knowledge on this track.
Could be an interesting explore, (in the dry) even if you can't make it the full length.
But if you could, it would be one hell of a loop road

We covered it on someones ride a few years back. I've got pics and a gps tracklog. It's all graded farm race from one end to the other and crosses private maori land. The actual track doesn't follow the original track due to an earthquake making the original track impassable, even by foot apparently.

Made inquiries about it last time we worked the Parapara's. Yep, it is on private maori land mate. However the station manager seemed a decent bloke if ya get me drift

Hey Brent, we did this about 4 years ago on the friday before the king country ride.

The access was through a private station with gates locked at either end that had to be opened first.

It tried to get the contact details for the farmer about 2 months ago, but they had been lost.

Would be a matter of calling into to the main station house ( off the wanganui road ) and talking to the farmer again to try and organize further access

Track was quite steep clay in some places and was easy in the dry but not something to be attempted in the winter on adventure bikes.

The river that runs through Wanganui has always been spelt with a H in it.

Just went back thru me photo's and we did it on the 24/4/2009, lol the E-09's are still on the DR since way back then , jeez I better get her out more

This myth spread by some people about what has always been and blaa blaa blaa could have a few flaws in it. If indeed the sovriegn landowners of the fine settlement of Taumaranui have always called the river the Whanganui river, they should perhaps have dialouge with the jokers from Taumariti (a little bit upstream from the other place) as the bridge by them crosses the Wanganui river

Sez so on the sign on the bridge so it must be true

Unless them sneaky cork-asians have been mispelling stuff again

However as with most of the PC, hi-viz wearing bollocks we are subjected to in Noo Zeelan today, ultimately
