    Who's stealing all the motorbikes?

I'm just curious as to whom these pricks are and where they are taking these bikes?

Someone must know something. NZ isn't exactly a large place.

I'm still reeling from the loss of my bike and still can't get my head around how someone can just take a motorcycle in broad daylight without anyone noticing.

I'm not the only one on KB who's had their pride and joy stolen from them.

I just want to know from fellow KB'ers what info they have regarding motorcycle theft in NZ and what's being done about it.

Here's a link to my stolen bike:

Surely it has to be planned i mean its not like nicking a cage you cant just jump on and ride off down the road for starters to be as unnoticable as possible you would need to be carrying round a helmet planning to steal it so a bit of research must go into it as well

    exactly.

Might pay to canvas local meetings and bigger events and look for stolen bikes... especially how surrounding people wouldn't be in a good mood with the recipient of the stolen vehicle... (bring your own lynch mob? hell it is already provided...)

There's a shit load of dirt bikes stolen, some right out of dealers showrooms. No rego,no rego papers....But surely at some big trail ride a bike would be recognised. There must be a big underground movement of bikes and parts....and people turning a blind eye - appathy again.

Um,I can talk - another me,from an earlier time when I rode bikes from another world.....you didn't ask where the parts came from, everyone had parts, they changed hands constantly,it was highly likely you were buying parts that were stolen at some stage, but not from the guy you got them off,or from the guy he got them off....like where do you draw the line??

It takes about 30 secs to nick a bike. Usual method is for about 4 people to pick it up and put it in a van.

Stolen road bikes sometimes become racebikes, or they are broken up and sold to wreckers or privately on sites such as trademe. The fairings and lights and sticky out bits sell like hotcakes to the "I binned by bike" crowd. Then the other bits move a little slower. Engines will either be broken up for parts or end up in some other bike.

As for dirtbikes, they dissappear like a US dollar bill on the floor of the national party meeting. Quads are sold, sometimes for dope plot checking (found a few of these) or fishing or hunting bikes. Others end up in the hands of unknowing farmers or recreation users. Motocross bikes are nearly untraceble. I have owned dozens of dirtbikes and am quite confident that they came from legit guys, but do I really know there history?

How many bike owners have had the numbers of their bikes checked? Crap makes me think now.........

Same with diggers, they're now putting GPS systems in them, found several on a boat half way to china.
My brother has had one stollen and knows of 4 others, they just dissappear.

I'm sure it's alot more sophisticated. A guy walking around with a helmet and no bike is pretty obvious. They're obviously just shifting the bikes into neutral, lifting the front wheel up and wheeling them into a tinted van. That's why I always get suspicious and paranoid when I see a van with rear tints.

I would love to setup a sting and catch the bastards in the act. Once we had one of them we would most certainly find out where the bikes are going (pliers and a blow torch would do the trick).

Why bother with torture? Add a piece of steak and a popsickle to that. 'Tis all you need.

Doesn't work if they've also seen The Punisher - best to tie their hands out in front of them and apply the blow torch so they can see and smell the buggers cooking...
