Possible quick way to sit full licence?

hi i am a nz resident but held a learner licence overseas from 1998-2000. i let it lapse and never did get full licence overseas. i have now resat my learners and passed.
i have years of biking experience on big bikes, and now find i have to wait 2 years till i can ride my bike which is not lams approved. i have sent in my details for a excemption but was pretty much told at best i may get to sit my restricted a little quicker, this still leaves me with 18 months before im legal on my bike. can anyone advise possible ways i can speed up process,as you all know your self its extremely hard not to ride your favourite toy. i may even be willing to travel overseas to sit a exam if i have too, anything so i can just get out there again. thanks in advance for any info put forward.

    Good luck with this.

The system is designed for the lowest common denominator. It's been written alongside ACC and the stats they have, where crashes tend to happen to inexperienced riders. That's why they have made it harder to get a 6.

Don't know of a quicker way. You might just have to suck it up. One thing I know for sure is that the 2 years doesn't start until you get your 6L, so bite the bullet, consult Nike, and Just Do It.

And why once you get experienced enough to ride your big bike they charge you more.

You gotta do the hard yards like the rest of us now bud
Exemptions went out the door with the law change last October.
Go buy a lams approved bike, park up your toy and do the time.
I have two in the garage I want to ride, but cant for the same reason as you.

Until CBTA (or whatever it's going to be called) comes into effect, there is no way to speed up the licence process in NZ. CBTA is just about to enter a trial phase.

If you fancy a holiday in the UK, you could look at their Direct Access course. Full licence in 4 days I think, then convert to Kiwi perhaps?

Demerit points for getting caught riding a bike, bigger than licence restrictions motivated me to upgrade my licence.

But I have only ever owned a couple of 250's, and I rode on my learner licence for 15 years.

I'd just get the licence procedure under way and ride.

If your carefull you seldom get pulled over.

I rode for around ten years with no licence and never got asked for one by the plod,,,just by being carefull.

cheers for all the replys, yea i have been holding my nz learners for a few months now, but like as someone mentioned above, i have been pulled over and ticked up 200 dollars in fines and 35 demerits, and each time i get pulled over i will get this without full licence, so i have 2 chances left and then licence is gone for 3 months. someone told me the other day that doing a defensive driving course will take 6 months off the restricted so with my excemption and a defensive driving course i may be able to get full in half the time. it all just feels like a mission as i was first legal on a bike 15 years ago. thanks again guys

remove plate and dont stop = no demerits.

this will give you a chance to enjoy the high speed potential of your bike also

I totally hate our system! I have a mate that has just received his full license, he has never owned a bike, learnt all the basics e.g. U-turns, hill starts and probably clocked up 1000km from learner to full licence....good on him I say!

Sorry - but suck it up and do it ...

It's also shit for people who are disqualified from driving for 12 months and one day .. they too have to go through it all again .. because after 12 months your licence is expiredd .. gone .. they have to suck it up too - no matter how many years they've been riding .... a good reason NOT to lose your licence - and exactly why judges diqualify people for 12 months and one day ..

If you get caught with a learners on a big bike it will cost you demerit points .. and may eventually lead to a suspension period ... then you're really screwed ..

But my advice is suck it up and do it .. and once you start see it right thrugh otherwise in a couple of years you will be in the same position ...
