New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas?

I just bought "new zealand motorcycle atlas" to prepare for my trip to NZ at the end of the year. I was wondering if anybody has experience with this book (any toughts) or has other suggestions for motorcycling-oriented travelguides.

It is a very good guide to New Zealand's motorcycling roads. Use that to plan your trip and you will have a great time.

Have a look at this blog by a young American travelling in the South Island: http://kiwibound.livejournal.com/2009/03/17/. Good perspective from someone outside the country and great photos. At the end of the blog, the author has map page links of his journey.

I have a copy, it's one man opinion of obvious roads to ride, there are a shit load more roads out there that the book does not cover. Local knowledge is better than GPS/Road Map.

...would be to buy Mike Hyde's new book "Twisting Throttle New Zealand" which is 50 of the country's best roads to ride, and is a mix of road and adventure, North and South Island.

Published by Harper Collins, it will be on sale from 2 August 2013. I've been fortunate enough to review an advance copy for Kiwi Rider magazine, and I reccommend it both for visitors to NZ and locals. There's something in it for everyone.

I have used the NZ Motorcyle Atlas extensively, and by picking the recommended routes as I get around the country have seen many roads that I would otherwise have missed.

Local knowledge is OK as far as it goes but it doesn't tend to go very far. When you head for the horizon take the NZ M A.

Seeing his blog which was in 2009 its interesting to see his photos of Christchurch before it was wrecked by the earthquakes. Tagger I presume you know that most of the Christchurch CBD is munted with few hotels open now but don't let that put you off Christchurch, there are still many places you can stay in just out of the city centre.

I do hope to meet up with people (from this forum? ) while i'm on the road, so nothing will ever be set in stone, but it looked like a good place to start

Yep Hema, had the aussie one last year on our trip over there and it was great. No substitute for local knowledge but this is pretty close to it IMO.

Nah - its a good enough book. For your first time here just follow your nose and you will find very few roads unsuited for motorcycles here. Even the boring ones generally have something nice to look at ;-) (not that you will be of course - eyes on the road - keep left please)

I had to say that to myself all the time when I was traveling in the UK, hopefully i will have learned something from all my "oh f*ck, that car is comming towards me"-moments

The more books/advice like that i have the better, once i'm there i will make up my mind if i will follow my gps or not, but it's nice to have some guidelines like that
