    Does anybody know this bike on Trademe? Suzuki VZ800 Marauder. Buying advice needed.

    Hi, Guys My name is Jesse.

    I know that I need to provide my personal details when talking about the particular bike on trademe.
    I live in glenfield
    28 years old
    been riding about 2 years on 250s

    I've Just sold my 250 suzuki volty250 and looking into upgrading into suzuki VZ800.
    below is the link to the bike on trademe;

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...x?id=449732091

    Now, I have been looking at ALL of vz800s in trademe for about 4 months now, test rode 3 of them, I like it I think it suits me.

    Quite like this one here because its blue.

    Ive found this listing about 4 months ago with just over 6 grand. and now at 4800 ono.
    I was adamant this bike would be sold by the time I sell my old 250 (about a week ago), but yet, still here it is!
    in that time Ive seen about 3 of same models being sold. 1 blue 2 black. all around 2004-05, 5 grand mark.

    When I'm hunting for cars and keeping my eyes out for one, I usually stay away from the cheap cars thats been on trademe for long time.
    and was wondering if this bike might be the same case??

    I did see this particular bike and test rode it. couldn't find anything wrong other than the torn front right suspension seal. which is upside down on these bikes. But then again, I do not know much about mechanical side of this about the bikes..

    so my questions would be;
    1. what would be the most cost effective way of checking for the mechanics of the bike when purchasing 2nd hand bikes
    2. I know its a long shot, but anybody here know about this bike? or went and saw this bike? if not decided to buy then why?

    Thanks I am keen and would pay but I thought Id write a post about this so I could see what you experts think about.

    There is a big difference between the Volty and this one. Weight wise ...

    If that is the bike you want ... get the owner to arrange for it to be checked over at a bike shop. (you pay ... either before the check, or included in the sale price if there are no issues with it)

    Basic WOF is about $50 (odd) ... in depth check ... things like compression pressures etc ... more. Ring a bike shop and ask. Cheap insurance before purchase really.

    It looks like a nice bike. The way is has been set up strongly suggests it has been owned by an enthusast.

    32k isnt much and Suzuki have a good track record. It would be great if it has a service record.

    You won't have any problems with the weight, its all down low on a custom style bike and bigger bikes are usually easier to ride.

    Take it to the AA and get them to check it out its QED. Ask to see the service record.

    I've just moved up to an M50 from my learner bike, and I don't think you'll have any problems riding this. Though heavier (about 250 to 260 kg) they do feel more stable on the road because of the inertial mass. The c of g is low, probably lower than your Volty, so they're easily manoeuvoured (sp?).

    Ask the seller where he's had it serviced and if you can contact them for comments. If he hasn't had it serviced or if he doesn't want you contacting his bike shop then you dont want the bike.

    I saw one of these sell at Bayride this afternoon, a 2007 with mileage in the mid teen kms, plus it had saddlebags and intercom. I think it sold for about $6000. So what this seller is asking seems to be in a reasonable pricerange for an older/higher mileage bike.
