    Wellington riding areas?

Just putting my 1990 DR250 back together after a head recondition (err,..the bike's, not mine).
Thought I might go and do a bit of trail riding/playing as the Guzzi and EX-4 are locked up for the winter.
I used to take my XR around the Red Rocks many moons ago but understand Mr Plod is starting to polizie that area what with it technically being a "public road".
Apart from the Akitaras is there any other place more local?

The pylon track by the twin bridges before Fetherston is a good up hill run
Also the Rimutaka incline thru to cross creek unless you know the easy way in you have to stand bike up on back wheel to get round the bollards {not suppose to take bikes in there}if you go there don't go on a sunny day due to the amount of foot traffic & mountain bikers shitty days are best give way to everything about half way to the summit at ladle bend you turn left and end up on the back Rd & mills creek Rd takes you up above the Rimutaka hill Rd come back down to the back Rd follow it thru to the old summit rail yards thru the long tunnel & down to the old cross creek rail yards
Mt Climie off tunnel gully same thing apply's except you can ride around the bollards easily only a 10-12min blast to the top ride as far as the second transmitter awsum views down the bottom are a few short forestry tracks & a tunnel Dont get caught & don't park near the gate
Otherwise Waiotauru Rd at the top of Akatarawa Saddle about 16km to the hut another 2km down river onto the snowy Rd a big slip has stopped anyone with small balls from getting the last 3km down the track
THE DEAR LEADER SAY'S Life is Hell ride hard or head home just get the fuck outta my way !!!

Also there's Brooklyn track - drive up to the wind turbine, ring the number on the gate at the back of the carpark and they let you in to Long Gully. Costs $20. MX track and trails - not much fun when it's windy, esp a southerly. I think they close it when it's pissing down but they'll tell ya. Can't get much closer to town than that.

IMO it is stupidity to ride in prohibited areas like the Rimutaka Incline and gives all trail riders a bad image. And why do it when the regional council permits trail riding in the Akatarawa forest?

The organised trail rides are displayed on http://silverbullet.co.nz/events.php

This weekend is the Ruakoputuna ride at Martinborough which is infamous for it’s sticky mud. Oroua Downs on June 23. There are less events during winter & the lambing season.

As Andy sez - one call to WRC Upper Hutt office and they post out ya trail ride permit to the Akas to ya for free - they even include a map

Also you can rent the Rallywoods area off the owners http://rallywoods.co.nz/index.php

Note, as a legit user of the Rimutaka Incline area with a key to that gate - if I catch you or anyone else riding there I will take your picture and pass your details on to the relevant authorities.

I haven't worked hard to do the right thing to get my access undermined by some eedjit pissing other citizens off, even if they are sanctimonious mountainbikers.

Don't say ya ain't been told

Hey don't get me wrong, I'm as law abiding as they come (working for the Council does that to you )

That's why I asked where the LEGAL places are to ride.
But yes, I'll get some info from WRC.

There's an honesty box set up to deposit cash into, maybe $20-30, can't remember. On steep left hander before you go down the hill

probably shouldn't post a number on the internet,

There's a cellph no to call posted on the gate itself - I believe that it's closed when raining but open otherwise. I don't recommend it when windy. $20 per bike from memory
