Why is it overheating? Maybe something not quite right in the way the bike is tuned? Those would be my first thoughts anyway.![]()
For a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.Keep an open mind, just dont let your brains fall out.
It all depends on where you're riding , any bike will boil if you can't get air flow through the radiators. A higher pressure cap may be all you need. If your riding in Rut 100 type conditions all the time a fan kit will be needed to stop it boiling fitting a catch tank helps when it cools down as the lost coolant is sucked back into the system.
my 450exc was always overheating in the slow stuff.
tried different radiator cap, different coolant, silicon hoses etc etc, maybe made it a little less likely to overheat but after getting a fan from e-bay no more problems.
Started overheating at the end of a couple of tight slow sections, muddy bog traffic jam section and trying to navigate through rock's, fan kit is expensive but if I have to have it I guess I will get one. Has anyone tried the coolant in the link I put up?
Fit a fan kit and never have the issue again. Mine never gets hot now and we do some knarly bush bashing.
im sure i've seen some posts somewhere about doing it on the cheap and sticking on a pc type fan with some homemade brackets.
probably reasonably cheap if you just used a on/off switch instead of a temp sensor.
i think mine was about $NZ100 from ebay, expensive for a fan but well worth it for me. the ktm's really should have come standard with them.
Just brought a fan kit $217.00 dollars laterand that was with 10% off. Will fit it tomorrow and see how it goes, think i should have checked e-bay first
What is the coolant pre mix ratio ?. It should be 50:50.
anyone know if ktm do a kit for the '13 450sxf's?

IT WAS EBOLA, LA LA LA EBOLA
Get PC fan, the older noisy 1.6amp 135cfm-ish variety, ($12 ebay) spray internals with electrical lacquer to ip55 proof it. Use a thermoswitch n/o (normally open) around $2, rated around 95 celcius. Cheapest option. The thermoswitch has a 10 degree hysteresis which means it will switch off at about 85 celcius. I run a thermoswitch on one of my bikes and an aquarium digital thermostat on the other bike. The digital thermostat ($15 ebay) has a .5 hysteresis so switches off a lot sooner.
Been running mine a while now, no issues on 2012, the bigbore '08 still runs a little hot (10 degrees hotter than the 2012) but doesn't boil over.
i had similar problem with my kdx.....had some air in ....there was a little bolt on the top of the cyl....had to open it until all air has gone.....
