Good idea. I also carry a 50M of 5mm spectra and a wee snatch block. And I've had to use it.

The first time I took the KLX400 into that area I "found" the rock garden, and it was a waterfall. I thought "I remember this, they've even signposted it, how cute. It's no problem, down we go".

I'd forgotten that the last time I'd been there was 15 years ago, significantly dryer and on a KT250. I got out without too many problems, but I can't say I cleaned it.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon

Mate of mine spent two very cold nights in there a couple of years ago in July. He got to the bottom of the rock garden and then turned right and headed up the creek. All the places I told him never to go. Dropped (sunk) his bike in a bog and then just got plain disoriented.

His first time off road. I told him to wait till I could take him, but got impatient. (I was on Army exercise in pacific islands). Went alone, no map or emergency gear.

He was starting to get very very worried. His wife was beside herself. I got a call on exercise to help with listing the places we had talked about up there. Was found as darkness fell for the third night.

10m of 10mm in the Ogio vest. It's been used too. Young lad missed a right hander and went off the outside. His dad was pissed off no end. They hadn't even got to the start of the ride

Fcuk yea that was hard yakka, Erzberg stuff

There was also that time that I had to throw the KLR off a bank cos I couldn't get up. Was either that or start walking.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

They went in after not being there for many years, went down the staircase in the wet, it was suggested
they dont go back but follow some 4X4s out through rock garden.
Life shouldnt end at the grave well presented but rather, slide in sideways totally worn out yelling "shit that was a great ride!"

Thats a coincidence - we were talking to the 4wd guys at the foot of the devils staircase on Sunday - they had had major drama getting down the staircase - boomerang shaped steering tie rod on one (2hrs to sort of fix) and 3wd on another - plus a dead winch and they were yet to discover that they probably couldnt go up the rock garden as planned (theres a new big washout). We must have just missed meeting up with the 'lost boys'.

Its a simply magical area but things can so so easily go shitfaced in there (I nearly turned the Beta into a submarine on Sunday - walking out in mx boots would not be a pleasant way to spend an afternoon...evening....)

    you still got your evo?

    Cheers
