(Cheers for the greeny SD!) But the prob with speeding being the only enforceable thing vs careless driving and maybe being an unskilled driver/rider in general, is that it still is targeting something that is not wrong in itself. In a way (although this is slightly extreme) it's like fining people for getting in a vehicle at all - they have the potential to kill/injure people but it doesn't mean that'll necessarily happen unless they mis-use the vehicle. Personally, I think speeding's the same - if judgement is used properly then there's no prob with it. Same applies to driving/riding in general.

But I get what you mean about the fact that you need to be able to police something to stop people being loonies and wiping out themselves and others. I dunno, and obviously the cops don't either, but your everyday "speeders"/general public shouldn't have to be a scapegoat. Hmmm.

You missed a few words off the end, Lou. "ooh baby, I can't take all of that crap you keep spouting!"
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Has somebody told you I have real talent then? Maybe I'm too good looking? Apparently I already have an ego big enough for the job though. Bitch.

Dafe - I totally agree. I've (somehow) managed to avoid getting snapped by doing pretty much the exact same thing (well we'll leave it at that for now anyway). I didn't know that 4WDs were that dodgey though - I know they ocassionally use them.

"Speed kills" is the biggest promotional bollocks out there. So do cars and bikes! So do steering wheels! So do twisty roads! Or just roads for that matter! It's how you use them!!! What an ignorant statment to use as a hobby horse campaign. What pisses me off is that the 'general public' are starting to believe that if you "speed" that means you are "bad". Argh - make me sick.
The four wheel drives are real hard to spot because you're not expecting them. Infact I had one following me today in my workcar. Lucky for me I recognised the Police overalls they wore when I was passing them on the motorway.
They were in a white Toyota Hilux. There is a couple of mufti 4x4's driving the hutt motorway.

The burgendy car that was patrolling Himitangi was a Nissan 200SX, not what you'd expect to see a cop in either.

I'm driving the himitangi plains in the morning, I'll be keeping an eye out.

Known locally, and not so locally, as "splitting" or "filtering". Try a search from here on either of these words and you'll find loads of useful legal info, and general bollox.

    Thanks dude.

    Here's a good a place as any to start I guess: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...=lanesplitting

At the top of most (all?) pages you'll see a search button - click it and type in key words for the topic you want to search for.

    Enjoy.

Ok - to the best of my knowledge, although I may be talking out of my arse, it is illegal to lanesplit. But do it safely & slowly and the mufty you drive past may decide that you know what you're doing, don't pose a danger, and let you go without ruining your day. Unless he's in a bad mood because a random biker just got his daughter pregnant.

But I stand to be corrected. Because like you - I cant be arsed to check out all those search results.

This question has been thrashed to death here (not blaming you Mark), why don't we get a definitive guide to splitting guide posted somewhere here in the form of a sticky? Written by someone more knowledgeable than me (easy). Or is there one already? Spank? Mods?
