yes its from a cage magazine, and no in this case the bike didnt win... however given the competition, it was far from disgraced! What a beautiful bike.

Question, how much faster, if any, would a k5 gixxer thou be over the same distance?

Who cares..... it looks like a bag of shite... 174 bhp I think NOT is a word that springs to mind tho

It beat champ car to 60 mph. That's a race car folks, not far behind an F1 in performance.
Not bloody bad for a STOCK bike.

Did you look at the cars ?? Most were highly modified so probably a fair comparison.

I've always had a soft spot for Ruf turbo's.

dito, they go for around the $80K mark don't they? (if you can get one). Much better back for buck getting a Ten Kate Honda CBR1000RR or a BSB Rizla Suziki GSXR1000, but hey still a nice bike, but why did they choose that one to do the test with, ah right it's a cage site, enough said.

I've always thought that italian bikes are way too expensive for what they actually are. I think they should stop using hand labour and purchase some decent machinary.

And loose the mechanical spirit that many say those bikes have...
It's more the éxclusive factor - Ducati/Aprillia/MV Augusta = Ferrari/Lamborghini/Zonda for bikes which justifies the price (sorta).

Ferrari/Ducati would be the most notorious, ever noticed why non bikeys always go "yeah my workmates vets uncles daughters brother in-law had a ducati" or ''are you going to get a ducati one day" etc.

Being a cager site they probably assumed that the MV Augusta would be the fastest bike out by a long way because it just looks like it and costs the most

- I think we needed a turbo gixxer to give them all a good hiding

They have decent machineryand they use it. That's one of the major thing TPG did when they took over Ducati.

A lot is done by CNC. And Ducati use robots to paint the tanks and various other parts.

yes the MV is obsenely expensive (for a motorbike) - but I still want one... and while we're at it, I'll have a Ferrari F430 as well

Compare to the big Jap’s manufacturers, Duc, Cagiva and MV are just little factories with a handful employees. That’s one of the reasons why they are so expensive. Ducati and Agusta are very, very popular in Europe and cheaper to run (compare to NZ), the second hand market is much better as well and you won’t find so many aftermarket parts for any jap bike.

Just wondering how you mean cheaper to run, is that cheaper servicing?

Most bikes are generally in better condition and 10-15% cheaper. I wanted a “new” 916SP or 996 and I saw a lot of crap around Auckland. Also the service history and ownership record isn’t that easy to trace over here and that’s very important if you want to buy a ducati (ok my opinion).

The dealer network is much better and for this the parts are easier to get and 10-15% cheaper, most dealers/workshops have set prices for any kind of check/inspection! They do have to ask you if any extras needed (at least in Germany/Switzerland/France) otherwise you don’t have to pay for it, you have a 2 years guarantee for anything bought even 2nd hand.

I was after a camshaft and one rocker, 450NZD for the shaft and 200NZD for the rocker!! Second hand btw!!!!! In Europe you will get easy new stuff for this money!! or 2nd hand for a third

Aftermarket parts are available on every corner and if you really hate your dealer

buy online or through ebay

Anyhow

that's NZ and not europe
