Hey thanks everyone for your input, sorta confirmed what we already thought but didn't realise the bike market in general was THAT bad!
It's been on for so long now anyway, we just going to wait till spring and do the big price drop then when more buyers come out hopefully.
May be un-scientific but sounds like common sense!
Most of them are older and/or higher mileage but there's one there at 4.5K even - havn't seen one under 5K yet.
First thing I noticed was that it APEARS the bike has been listed for nearly a whole year now.-Might be a TM screw up but it looks to be it was listed july 21 which says 2012. THAT will put some people off.=I'd relist totally
Second I would drop mention of the MILES its done. You have recorded the KM's If anyone shows interest THEN discuss that its got a MPH speedo but the KM is accurate.
Third-It does seem toppy price wise.
Fourth -The advert is MEHH -it doesn't have bike shop behind it and it doesn't say "Ive been loved" by the last owner.
Get some stuff in thre about what a pleasure it is to ride etc.
Fifth-The pictures are clear and crisp but again don't "sell" the bike. With cars I refer to the "money" shot. Thats the picture that shows the vehicle in its very best light. Bikes are a pita so you might need to take 100 pics and choose the best 20-note I said 20 -you have 20 so use em all. IMO you should totally fill the camera frame with bike for the main shots. so JUST barely fit the whole bike in.
Sixth.-POSSIBLY your location is restricting buyers. Why not call Cycletranz and biketrans and put in the advert how much to freight the bike to the main centres?
Last-give Global credit a yell. They do bike finance.so if you tee it up with them you could add -"possible finance available"
Im reluctant to recommend running a $1.00 reserve auction only because you just don't know what it will fetch.
It WILL sell that way but you need to discuss it with the owner.
To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?
Top advise from Frosty!
I have sold a few s/h bikes in my life. FWIW here:
- Before I sell them I do work on them and take them to the level that I would buy them my self.
- I polish and polish again. You won't find any grease or dirt on them! I also make sure that any rust is gone!
- I do an oil and filter change.
- I replace stuff that you can easily see and that is even a little worn: Tyres, chains, sprockets, seat covers, grips, clutch and brake leavers, foot peg rubbers, batteries etc.
- If they are road bikes they will have a new WOF and Rego.
- If expensive I make sure I have a finance option available for the buyer. I am also always prepared to hold on to the bike while the buyer pays it off if need be.
I have lately sold some MX bikes and had no problem selling them compared to others who want less money:
- I take the bikes to MX events and allow people to check them out so they see how good condition they are in.
- I deliver the bikes for free as long as it is not too far away from where I am going anyhow.
- I have some extras I throw in: A helmet, boots, gloves, parts etc.
So my recommendation to you for TM add:
- More close up pix showing how tidy she is.
- Tell them that you are happy to hold on until buyer has paid in full. And if you can also help with organising finance then good!
- Provide delivery. Or flight ticket to come and pick up to ride home!
- Throw in something. A helmet, a bottle of JD. Anything really.
Other ways:
- Use free sites like Motorcycle Alley. Also many groups you can tell like cruizer groups etc.
- Take to town and have sign on.
- Take to bike gatherings and have sign on.
- Spread word re that she is for sale through your private contacts.
Perhaps there is something you are currently looking for? A lathe, a car, a spa and so on. Maybe try to swap with cash difference.
Good Luck!
Hi vladimir, Frosty has offered some excellent advice and if you take that on board and act accordingly i'm sure you will get interest in your bike, especially if you wait a couple of months untill Spring is here and the better riding weather. As has already been said, the market for selling is not good at present and the pricing will have everything to do with getting a buyer. They are not a bad bike to ride as i had a VS800 version of this some years ago and enjoyed it. Good luck with the sale.![]()
