    Vintage rego discounts?

Well my old bike is having it's 40th birthday some time this year. Rego is currently on hold while I'm giving her a bit of a tidy up. I plan on having her back on the road around the end of August. So I'm after some knowledge from some knowledgeable kiwibikers (!) about cheaper regos for classic & vintage bikes. I had an idea that 40 years old was the threshold for cheaper rates.

How does an old bike qualify for low cost rego? And are there some special forms I have to fill out? I've been looking on LTSA's website without much luck on the specifics...

    Thanks in advance,

40 years is the magic number, seems to happen automatically as the rego bill for my cortina just turned up the other day (which I put back on hold again), it was about $100 for 12 months.

You could stick the details into the LTSA online rego page and see what number it comes up with.

Cheap rego starts on Jan 1st for a vehicle that will be 40 years old that year.

Had a car recently where the rego ran out mid November - but it turned 40 on the 1st Jan. Put vehicle on hold with NZTA still showing standard rate for rego - checking at 00.05 on 1st Jan (sad person I am) it was about $109 (for a year)- and no backdating as no requirement to continually licence. Result.

Even better vintage rego means no continual licenceing - you can buy 3 months and then have 2 years til you have to reg again or put on hold
its all on the govt website
great for an old bike you dont use much just reg it when you feel like using it

also they have started charging a fee for putting reg on hold too

registered my Commando the other day $117.34 for a year, then went for 140km ride to celebrate
Got VCC club insurance on it for 10k at $120 a year fully comp as well.

In the UK they were going to have a rolling date like here but I think they stopped it at 1973 as there were so many 70's vehicles on the road.

You have got to love Vintage vehicle rego. Good on the VCC for pushing this through.
