    Carburation vs. Fuel Injection

Hi all, I need some advise.

I'm looking at buying an R6. I rode one today, an '03 model, which was fuel injected and I absolutely loved it (but I think it was a little over priced).
Now it seems that '03 was the first year of fuel injection for the R6 and hence anything earlier will be carburetted. I'm curious to know if there is really much difference in the feel/power delivery between carburation and fuel injection.

I also understand that the R6 frame was more rigid on the '03 model, any idea if this extra rigidity is noticeable?

    Cheers

Alot of it depends on how much you want to do with your bike, a friend of mine only owns carbed bikes as he knows how to play with jetting and all that stuff, me I like the FI bikes, any problems are sorted with a power commander - often just downloading maps from the website. If you like the FI model then get it.

You want some sound advice? Steer well clear of the Yamashit and get yourself a nice ZX636. 03 or later.

They are a far superior machine in every department, including rideability. In fact, get a new 05, they're the shiz.

(Holy fuck! Did I just say that?)

Yeah the 636 are great...you are under 5ft tall though aren't you, if you are however of normal size steer well clear - it's the sportsbike that wants to be a harley, bolt upright seating position but still cramped. Nice weee motor though.

A well known Welly/Wairarapa pilot who's always been a Yamaha nut, had all new R1s for quite some time. Bought a K3 Gixxer when they came out because it was so much better than his 02 R1. Then sold the Gixxer for an 04 R1. Six months later, the clutch started slipping on the Yamaha. They flat out refused a warranty claim on the R1 because "No one else has had a problem with one" so he sold the bike, told them to jam it and is now a very happy K5 Gixxer pilot.

I understand the 1st year of injection was a bit rough. 2nd year brings it back to about how they left off with carbs.

Only difference I can tell between the bikes is one uses slightly less fuel. It seems not much has changed since the 2k model was released.
