    Aftermarket CDI in 89 kx250

So I bought a project kx250 with no spark problem, so far been testing stuff and got a new stator plate from usa, (not sure if I needed this or not) Got a second hand cdi unit but I think it's faulty. Has anyone on here wired in an aftermarket cdi unit into an 89 kx250?? Got an aftermarket cdi unit off trademe here, Chinese one at that. Still working with the guy to work out the wiring to get it to work. I suspect it's possibly not going to work. Anyone done this to one, and been successful.?

i would be very surprised if that CDI will work on a KX250, i presume it is a four stroke looking at the description,

have you checked to see if you have voltage coming out of the stater, either the old one or the new one?

These links might help you in your quest. I found them useful when I was dicking around with CDI's and Dyno's a few years back. I had some success with converting chinese CDI's to work on Jap 2T's. They don't last long tho. Dry solder joints and inferior components. The CDI link is a good read.

Go down to your local motorbike shop ask them to source a PVL coil for your KX from Two Wheel imports in Whakatane , if they can't give Bryan a ring at Patterson O'Connor in Rotorua.

you would want to do some testing before you brought parts tho, electrical parts are non returnable, but a coil would be one of the first things i would look at on it as well,

Your cdi will not work on a kx125

It is designed for the gy6 series of Chinese bikes

Don't waste your time with it

    Get the correct parts
