Yep great site beats trade me hands down
I advertised a couple of bikes on there. Had approx. 100 views in a week. Sold them on TM. It was free on the alley so no harm. Will take some time before it grows big enuf so people come there to have a look. Hopefully one day!
Never heard of it,great idea and hope it does well.
Be the person your dog thinks you are...
Would like to see it do well and I am shopping for a cheap bike, so just tried the used search.
It shares TradeMe's daft CC selections (neither a 600 nor 650 option - the rego and LAMS break points) and has less granularity on other items e.g. the price increments.
And apparently my mouse is incapable of putting together a syntactically correct SQL query. Back to SQL school for you, Mr Mouse.
I'll have another go another time, when the search is not broken...

Hey Chasio.
Saw this thread and we are very keen to make continual improvements to the site. Have loaded a 600 and 650cc option in the search bar. Any chance you could let us know what you see as the other problems with the search function. We will be sure to get it sorted straight away. regards Pete
Hi Pete. Thanks for your reply. I just did another search and this time it worked and I (personally) like the 600 and 650cc options, ta
Last time I searched I just got a loooong error message complaining about my SQL syntax.
Functionally, I like what KB'er sil3nt did here - which scrapes data from TradeMe imperfectly (it was only a prototype) but the approach is great: http://b.sil3nt.net/
You enter your price and CC criteria and can then filter down by type / location / make (bottom of screen). This enables me to search (for example) for all bikes under $2000 and >125cc and <600cc, then refine to exclude quads, pocket bikes and scooters. Add an ability to save a search and email new matching results and you're on a real winner.
I can understand why drop-downs are favoured for entry as they can help protect against SQL injection, for example, but there are always other ways and means...
Awesome, thanks for that. We will take a look at our search function and see how we can improve it. I like your save search and email option, sounds good. The more full the site gets the more important it is that we have the search function operating just right. No point in having the stuff on there if you can't filter out the junk and get to the jewels that you are looking for. Many thanks . Pete
I have some ideas on how the search functions for a motorcycle site should work.
Right now everyone uses the same system and it is pretty crap. My site linked above is severely limited by trademe so I wasn't able to do everything I wanted.
One day I will write all my ideas down.
Sweet. Would love to hear your thoughts if you feel like sharing them. Either on here or via contact us on site. regards
In Search ... It would be cool to have a type 'Road' that encompassed bikes listed as 'Cruiser', 'Sport' and 'Tourer' ... ie, all the road legal bikes. For me in looking for Bandits, I've found them listed under each of the three categories. Apart form that, buyers aren't always committed to one particular genre.
Oh, and $7500 as a price point.![]()
