Just gotta find a race track long enough to see how quick it really is.
Im getting about 8km/L atm. Been having trouble ever since I changed the filter. Had a look at my fuel table yesterday, mid range throttle is wayyy to rich. Going to reset the PCV back to a zero map and see how it it runs (probably all good)
Gen1 busas didn't have a o2 sensor so im looking at a wideband kit. Pretty expensive but good for finding problem areas in the fuel table and im going to need one eventually for when I go turbo.
Anyone else running a pipercross filter and experiencing richness? im considering going back to the stock filter
Yeah I'm going back to it ay. No point in getting it dyno'd to possibly gain 3 or 4hp. Will flick it off on trademe for $60 atleast that way I get something back from it.
Im getting good power with it on the current map but the mid range just isn't street friendly
Not motorcycle related but interesting none the less. Shows that filters don't really do a hell of alot
The K&N Panel filter actually makes the car lose power. I will be going back to stock once I get home tonight, might keep the pipercross incase I ever decide to get a dyno tune done. Just paid my rego and now im broke, so I dont see that happening
I saw a report on a bunch of different "performance" filters for some lateish model Chev. Essentially some of them flowed better than the OE versions but because the engine designers aren't usually complete fuckwits it didn't increase HP to any measureable degree. And the engine life was significantly less. Quite a few of them flowed worse than the OE part and STILL let much larger particles through.
In fact the best performing filter of the lot was also the cheapest and the one most independent mechanics fitted: the AC Delco made OE part.
Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon
Yeah I agree man. Eye catching packaging and false promises do seem to work in the motorcycle world as well. Pretty clear that a Air Filter isn't going to give you the 8hp it promises on the box. The oils from them can even clog sensors and fuck them, not cool. Will be checking my ones tonight. It was running fine when I first put it in there, no issues at all but now its got a 1000km on it the fuel consumption is though the roof.
On a thread about hyperbikes, you guys are discussing fuel economy![]()

Absofuckinlutely!!!, I couldn't care less how much fuel my Busa uses as long as I can reach the next servo!
Gen1 Busa
-Modified ignition curve in 1,2 and 3
-Disabled limiter in top
-Up 2 on the rear,
It is moderately fast I guess but.......
Not doing anything engine on it, cause the reality is, it runs around in the real world and will allways be a fuckload slower than my Superbike, I'd have time to stop at the top of the straight and roll a ciggie before a ZX14 caught up too, so, which one really IS a "hyperbike"?, a Busa?, a ZX14?, a Blackbird, or a 1 litre Superbike that is faster down the quarter, faster in the turn, faster out, stronger on the brakes, just as much top end as any of the heavy weights .
I would call my Busa a "hyper tourer" that can hang with the 600 mob in the real world tight stuff if you know how to work the thing. If I cared about fuel consumption, I would get a GN250!
Speed kills-just ask the rabbit......
Re the Air intake, the biggest improvement people could make on a car was giving the car cool direct air. Putting a pod filter in a hot engine bay is always gonna make you go backwards, besides the cool intake noise. People got the impression that simply changing the filter made a huge improvement, and the filter companies capatilised on it.
Ive actually been recommended to go aftermarket on the CBR though, as apparently the paper filters clog easily.
Installed the woolich gear.
Ordered swinger stand bobbins and a rear stand.
Ordered akra headers to go with the Yoshi pipes. Like the twin pipe look.
Also ordered the woolich bench harness as I don't get net in the garage and the Brocks/Guhl code on my ecu isn't on the known list so breaking it could take 48hrs with ignition on. Easier to have the ability to do that in the house.
Got the pcV installed and fuel economy is improved also. A lot more power after first ride.
Im thinking voodoo rearsets and powercomander quick shift will be next.
