Are you looking for the KML file for a web application or your GPS?
Without knowing exactly what you want the KML file for, this may help: a GPX file adheres to an XML file format and is imported into GPS devices (as long as the GPX file is complaint with the GPS unit). A KML file is a geographic data file and used with Google's programs as KML overlays such as Google Maps and Google Earth etc. If you want to view the DB1K route in Google Earth, simply import the GPX file you received from Epic Events into Google Earth and it will render to a KML overlay.
Hope that helps
Josh

I rather ignorant about this particular topic (and and in general as well). I use my android phone and oruxmaps application. I have the topomaps loaded on oruxmaps and only need the track and is a reasonable (for me) setup. I have done it only once before I was of the impression I used kml (however it could also have been kmz).
...... I will use Josh's files from last year since I found them hideing a some dark corner of the puter..
