Are you looking for the KML file for a web application or your GPS?

Without knowing exactly what you want the KML file for, this may help: a GPX file adheres to an XML file format and is imported into GPS devices (as long as the GPX file is complaint with the GPS unit). A KML file is a geographic data file and used with Google's programs as KML overlays such as Google Maps and Google Earth etc. If you want to view the DB1K route in Google Earth, simply import the GPX file you received from Epic Events into Google Earth and it will render to a KML overlay.

    Hope that helps

I've not really delt with kml's but I imagine google earth or Basecamp may be able to create those from a .gpx for you, but why would you want one of those?

    Edit: Just noticed Joshes reply.

erm I rather ignorant about this particular topic (and and in general as well). I use my android phone and oruxmaps application. I have the topomaps loaded on oruxmaps and only need the track and is a reasonable (for me) setup. I have done it only once before I was of the impression I used kml (however it could also have been kmz).

Now after reading the issues with the loading the maps (I have basecamp installed but have never used, though shouldn't be a problem) I was expecting it to be a straightforward affair

I have a tidied set of 'Track files' now ready to play with.
Probably work ok on the smart phone Pampa if you just want it to display in the background on the map, I've manually got rid of a lot of wasted points to help the phone and gps do their thing and also ensured all the important turns that I am aware of are still in place.
It's a set of 8 files cut at the start of the challenge options labeled D14_1... to D14_5.... D14 being Dusty Butt 2014 but with older GPS limited to 13 characters in their names I couldn't write full descriptions. Challenge files are like D14_2C_Awakino for example and the bypass is D14_2_Easy.

I'm now doing a conversion to make 250 point route files, and then will check the turns are still correct again as the automatic filtering process tends to delete the best positioned corner points unfortunately.

What gps are you using Pete?
I'm wondering if Josh did you a special set of files?
