Correct - all my assists are from north of the border. Even the very sore rider I brought out last night was from up your way.
Unloaded the DR in Fairlie & replaced it with Lee's KTM (countershaft issues from busted chain). Will drop that @ Mainfreight ChCh then load a certain 'Berg, with similar issue. So still full load to Picton.
Big thanks to DR Dave for letting us use his rear wheel. After 3 flats, swapping out the rear hoop for Chasio was the quickest option. We were still late into Fairlie though.
There were a lot of virgins this year but still a great event. Theme last year was wheel bearings - this year it seems to be chains.

    Ouch!
There seems to be something about the DB that doesn't like my bunch of friends, did Roger actually comlete the course this year?

Think I may have seen you pull in as I was leaving the Gladstone heading to the motel.
I think it takes a first attempt to learn the biggest lessons for a better run next year. It did with us too way back when it all started having never done anything like it before.
And now that I think of it I'm actually still doing something a little different every time.
Usually do pies on the run, usually works for me but this year I took the main route having done some of the other stuff down there a month ago. This let me enjoy myself a little more and be able to complete the whole thing without burning out.
Sat down for a decent brunch each day and had a good pub meal in Omarama to carry me through the sleepy straights ahead each side of the Black forest. Then there was the nana nap in Naseby next to the fire at the cafe while we waited on food and the newspapers I stuffed in my boots drew out some of the water still in them from wading the Fairlie river at the start of the day. I think that time spent there made the rest of my Saturday a breeze.

I've tweaked some of my posts, I see I wrote we (Ryan, Alex and I) had a late breakfast in Fairlie for example... but we were in Waimate!

Only a hand full of photos caught on my phone....
At the Fairlie River this post.

Hawksburn Range - Busted chain busted the case... oil escaped, need-it to patch the hole and borrowed chain breaker from SkinnyBirdman to help get the chain in to a loop again.

Black Forest - I've only heard of about half a dozen cases of people trying to use a tyre pando can to fix a puncture in a tubed tyre. Only once did they actually manage to get to help with it and even then it needed topping up along the way.
Every other case it failed miserably and that's what happened when they tried it here.
These guys were cleaning up the mess it made and attempting to patch the tube properly when we happened by.
Seemed to be all under control so after grabbing the picture and swapping out my GPS batterys we continued on our way.

Was told to give the pando the best chance of working the wheel has to be off the ground, and wheel has to be rotated
as the panda pumped in. Was this done ?

(Cannot recall if you give few pumps and rotate wheel few times or rotate as its pumping in, can
find out from the guy that has had success with them on trail bikes)

Don't know, wasn't there, we arrived after they had made the mess, white foam all over the place.
I can imagine having the wheel off the ground and rotating as you put a bit of the pando stuff in at a time to let it find the hole and set would help.
I'll always patch the tube properly or replace it myself.

Think the rotating is to ensure the foam is even around the tube too, use of a panda
is in the xr manual, would assume Honda would not bother if they did not work.

Took a wrong turn... by the time I sorted it out...no one anywhere in site...

Run across rigley at the gate at the gorge with a millon river crossing leading to the Omarama saddle..
Then we came across Poraki/flashg & another... all was going well till the elephant done the starter clutch in a crossing..
pushing/pulling & tow starting he got it though... some how I managed to de-rail a chain in one of the crossing..

that was a good dusty.. apart from my little 70/80kmh get off.. think I passed cynna "Colin" doing cartwheels..

great to ride withe yers all....

Just got home, me and Umopom decided to come home through the rainbow. Heavy snow all the way through so am now thawing out.

Great dusty, The noob that came with me loved it even though he completely submerged his KTM at the first river crossing. Welcome to the dustybutt. Wade had to bug out at Kurow as an old ankle injury meant he couldn't stand up and was worried about the Awakino. Was a good decision as the Awakino was the hardest it has ever been for some reason.

KLR done me proud for the 5th dusty in a row. Both fork seals blown (again) and a broken headlight (again). Not selling it now so stop lining up ok.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

    Dnf :(

Well that was another awesome DB done and dusted.
Saturday was a pleasant run thru doing the easy options with Chasio and getting into Alex at 7.20 and a well earned feed at Monteiths after Struan had finished rescuing dead bikes.

Sunday was more challenging with the Lammermoors wearing my riding buddy out and by the time we reached Struan's fuel stop it was well late. Chasio stayed to repair his bike, have a rest and continue back with Struan. Bad luck mate but there's always next year, and having done most of it you know what to prepare fore next time.

Having a deadline to be home/at work I skipped the Omarama section and zapped thru Dansey's and Black Forest getting home at 9.30. Despite the short cut it was an awesome and enjoyable weekend with great company.

Big ups to Struan for once again saving the day for so many.

See you all again next year
Sometimes you wish it was easier, but if it was, everyone else would do it, then you remember you don't want to be like everybody else!

Big ups to guys I was riding with for the moral support and rigley for the tow starts. I really thought I was in trouble for a moment - a 200kg bike stalled in the middle of the river with no starter ! Really glad I wasn't on my own! It was quite an intimidating prospect getting out of the Omarama saddle valley all the way home without stalling once, but it's all good experience to have under the belt.

    Cheers all.

Black Macpac bum bag lost on Dunstan Trail, possibly at start of Serpentine.
    Anyone pick it up?
