    Paris Dakar 1988

    kool book, great era for the dakar, i remember back then yamaha entering a team of dt125s complete with huge tanks
    and all the associated body work, imagine the state of the topend by race end

    Jesus! Really?!?
    I was surprised to read that the first bike to win the Dakar was an XL250, it seemed they nearly all settled pretty quickly on big bore singles and twins though.
    I think some 125 mx bikes have been run in the past and more recently, but a dt175 trail bike is something else! Crazy! Must have been a French entry...nutters!

    That pic shows what a bad choice they are for the Dakar! Look at that rear suspension, it's not even bumpy! The riders body position says it all; a mix of depression, loneliness and hoping for a terminal engine failure so this hell ends quickly!
