Did he know the LAW before purchasing said bike?
Get an exemption from work or take it into account when applying for licences or jobs.
Life.
The test is not that hard... well yes it is hard- I've done a trial and failed (as I expected to). But looking at it its really things that all competent riders should know.
I know people who have been riding for far less than me and have just picked it up like 'that' and would pass it in a blink.......and then there's me.
What's the point in living if you don't feel alive?
Toying with ones mortality shouldn't be this much fun.
Thanks for that infoI guess I will have to wait and see what happens first! My 18 months is up in April, abouts. I foolishly delayed my restricted test a month from September to October last year and got stung by the changes. I do keep wondering if I could drag out my old defensive driving certificate from the 90's if I'd be able to get the 6 months knocked off!

There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those that do not.
Remember, that GOOD QUALITY TRAINING stays with you forever. It doesn't get sold with your bike, or expire with your rego. It stays with you FOREVER..
It's not the message that is DELIVERED, but the message that is RECEIVED that is important.
pretty sure that there is already facilities to apply for variances due to work and family situation but to be honest im not sure its a good idea for someone with limited experience to be pillioning
is that not their own fault for not getting off their ass and getting it done, and don't give me any BS about not having time, if it is important enough they would make time
You can apply for an exemption, so that you can ride/drive outside your normal licence conditions... It is not a quick process, at all.
Each person is exempted according to their individual needs. I wouldnt expect the riding outside your time request to be very complicated. But I doubt that an exemption would be granted to allow for a pillion to be carried, until the full licence is attained...
I had a student (class 1 car) whose mother applied for an exemption, so that OCCASIONALLY the girl could drive her younger sister to school.....very occasionally...The hours, and which days of the week, plus the route that would be taken, the age of the two girls etc, all had to be supplied to NZTA before a decision was made... NZTA take that all very seriously...
HTH, but probably not what you wanted to hear..
