Have my wee cruiser's plate mounted on it's side like that with nil issues so far.
I think it was Kiwifruit that had a thread covering the legality of where/how to mount it.

I distinctly recall a 20+ page thread a few years ago on KB about someone who got done for the exact same thing. Their plate was mounted to the side vertically. If I recall correctly, they fought it and won.

I dont want to risk being pulled over every other day, or for that matter any more indue attention from the police than the bike already gets.
Dropped by Honda this morning, of course they felt it was legal, but were happy enough to arrange a new tail tidy at their cost of course.
will post before and after pictures when its done.

Hey Mossy, that's a great little trailer, did you design it yourself? How does the bike handle when you are travelling with the trailer loaded and any chance of a couple of side angle pics without the saddlebags? PM me if you prefer.

    Cheers

I just started loading the bags for cold kiwi to see how much room I have for 2 sleeping bags,4 man tent, airbed etc. Theres a trailer build thread in modified bikes. Its the second one I have built Tows ok but not 100% happy with coupling yet so im making my own universal.

Photo one is early on. Moved shock and reduced frame height by removing top bar and having two low bars.

Photo two is the first trailer I made. It wobbled at 180.
Hoping new trailer is better but haven't tried it loaded up yet. Expect limited to 25kg load.

There is also one about how crazy steve stabbed a cop, you should read that too.

All compliance decisions are now at the call of the PIB, Police Infringement Bureau.

Local stations don't have the authority to cancel tickets.

The are trying to standardise decision making to a national standard.

Thanks for the reply Mossy. You've given me something to seriously think about as i was considering building a trailer myself.

The illegal plate isn't necessarily a WOF issue.
Had a similar issue with a cop getting me for an illegal plate at a WOF/REGO stop.
I said I had bought it like that, had several warrants like that. He said that the plate isn't a WOF issue. So you can get a WOF with a plate that is illegal size.

Told me to sort it. Cost me a massive $13 to get a new plate from the gubbmint.
    Sorted.

But that was illegal size not illegal placement. Placement might be covered under WOF
