    Not displaying plate properly

Just been pulled up. Apparently having a numberplate that is not mounted at the rear of the bike is illegal.
Bought the bike two weeks ago from Honda, it has a tail tidy, and the plate is tucked in under the tail over the front of the rear tyre.

Cop is apparently a biker himself, and insisted this is illegal, and have 2 weeks to sort it out.

Anyone else running a similar setup get pinged for this?

A little like this, but on a different angle:

That does not look visible with the tire in the way? Thought it had to be visible and readable? At least he gave you 2 weeks, thats a plus.

"A motorcycle, moped, tractor or trailer plate must be fixed securely in an upright position on the rear of the vehicle and displayed so that all the characters (numbers and letters) are clearly visible at all times."

That's from NZTA, seems a little vague but if your rear tyre is obscuring it then you might have to change it.

[Edit] Is your plate tilted? Because I think that's what the phrase 'upright' refers to.

Have heard of others with a similar setup being pulled over,am guessing the Honda shop put a WOF on it when they sold it to you so i suppose its there problem to sort out.Ive a tail tidy set up on mine but theres no reason the plate cant be attached in the normal position.

no, not vague, under the seat in front of the tyre is not the 'rear' of the vehicle

You will have to mail them proof that you have changed it, a photo wont be enough, you will need a reciept that you have actually paid some cunt to do something about it. Last cop that gave me compliance told me to ring the infringement bureau, bitch on the phone laughed at me and said I needed to send in the WOF form to get compliance. Must be fucking hard to look up vehicle rego in the police register or someshit. Would have taken 20 seconds to see the warrant had been gained.

Stupid thing to give you complicance for. Piece of shit should have just let you off

Can you not just call into the police station and show them once you have made the changes? Thats what I have done, no problems there.

    That sounds dangerously logical.

Will have to hit up Honda sometime next week.

Looking at the plate from the side of the bike, its halfway between the rear axle and the front of the rear tyre, so I guess it can be argued its not at the rear of the bike.

Sometimes we complicate the simplest of things. As long as you have a compliance, you will be fine. Just means you will have to find somewhere else for the plate to sit, no biggy.

youre a fucking criminal. That cop should have impounded your shit and hauled your ass downtown for a bit of what-for.
Thank blue blazers that cop was exercising his discretion, and you basically got away with breaking the law, which is there for everyones benefit you know.

Nah mate my brother handed in the form for his WOF down at the copshop and got told they dont deal with it, its all gotta go through the cunts that deal with infringement in wellington. Just pay the fine and keep the plate how it is. YOLO
