    Bargain touring machine there.
XJ900 diversions are pretty cheap touring bikes too. Ugly and beige though

Certainly much prettier as a cafe racer.
I'm wanting to do the Burt Munroe next year, so I'm putting away coins for a comfy bike. But I'd probably want a wee bit more poke and a lot less weight.

So, it makes the search a wee bit harder. Especially with a sub $3k bike RF...

    cbr1000f, zzr1100, gtr1000, zg1000, fj1200, triumph trophy, gsx1200 or gsxr1100.
Lots of sub 3k bikes but trouble is finding one that's well looked after.

ZZR and GSXR are the only two of those I would really consider, I kind of fit both of them and they're both sporty enough to be a big giggle.
I'd like the Trophy, but a sub $3k one will be fucked I assume

I may need to think about this more
I'll live with a 600/4 like an F3 CBR or another ZZR6 (I have so many spares for one...)
There's an FZ6 Fazer in Hastings Honda for $4.2k or so, which seems reasonable. But they're pretty budget suspension wise.

I should just buy a VTRthou and some petrol cans as panniers

    Smallish size touring bike, sorted!

Do what I did. Spend a small amount and watch a project get out of hand until you have spent 10 times your budget.

Bloody good machines those, assuming they don't have the same soft cam material of the ZZR1100C? And IMHO the sexiest retro-muscle thing the Japs did

    Another bargain, http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/moto...-868150133.htm
Really do like the RFs, except for the huge fat arse on them. I think they are a wee bit large and bulky for me to be pushing around lawns, carparks and garages

I reckon I can live with the VTRthou tank range, I usually stop about every 150km for a quick suck on a fag and cuppa anyway so rarely let any of my bikes go further than 200km on a tank (the ZZR600 would manage well over 300 with commuting though)

When RF900 were new and under 11k I got keen on them. Then I sat on one and looked down at the triple clamp and instruments and it came across as poorly finished. Guess that's why a budget bike. Likely good value. Funny thing is I got the same feeling sitting on a k1300s. The moulded triple had a rough edge unfinished look to it like a seem that shouldn't have been there.

Owned a vtr sp1 and Wellington to Foxton was almost an empty tank. 17litres used. Wellington to Featherston and back was a full tank trip.

A bike I owned in the mid 90s was a 1989 zx10. That was a great bike or at least I thought so at the time.
