What's the best first bike to buy and learn on?

    Hi Team
I guess this has been asked a million times, I just got my learners licence and wanting to know what is the best 1st bike to buy and ride as a newbie, my mate told me to buy a GN250 2006 model, as he said its easy to ride reliable economical hard to stall and has a gear indicator, and cheap parts and plenty. I am 188cm tall and 104kgs am I too big for that kinda bike?

Too big ? that would be a YEP !
Try a road trail bike, wider bars , and can take the odd drop ok compared to anything else.

Get a busa or an R1.

Really, best bike depends on a lot of things like where you ride and your own preferences (and your budget), but a good place to start would be going to a couple of dealers and sitting on a few bikes to see what style you find comfortable (cruiser, standard, sports, dirt/adventure/motard) and what kind of bikes you like the look of then grab the LAMS list and look a few of the bikes up, with your height and weight I would suggest going for a bike 400cc or bigger.

Damn funny Akzle, and there would have been a few here just thinking what you wrote...

Hands up all those who thought taking the initiative by using the LAMS list and an actual dealer visit might have merit...as opposed to just looking thru the window

Dude, you'll look like you're on a clown bike on a GN250. Plus all the hard to stall and gear indicator stuff is going to be totally useless to you after a month when you intuitively know what gear you're in and you couldn't stall for a bet. Plus they're totally devoid of any character or personality. For you're size and weight, I'd go with a Hyosung GV250 (if I was going with 250 at all). They're bigger than most, look and handle okay and are fine to live with. However, why don't you get a bigger bike?...check the lams list, throw a leg over the odd bike, see what makes you smile and buy it.
