    Home Safe app

Just downloaded this. Looks like a fantastic B plan for those of us who like to get lost on our lonesomes every now and then.

Available on iOS only at this stage I believe.

There was a young lady hereabout who might have found that app helpful had it been available then.

The only reason I own a cell phone is because I sometimes ride long distances alone. My phone was the cheapest one in the shop so it definitely isn't "smart".

I can only imagine the number of callouts that would be initiated for me.

The number of times I've thought "ooh, I'll just see what's down that road" then hours later I finally find a road that leads out (rather than further in).

I've had some of my most enjoyable riding like that!

Indeed, extremely practical in many cases and not just a security blanket either. The more devious could use it to provide automatic timing and location updates to their getaway driver but hey... it's harder to think outside the square if you're a technophobe.

Btw, the app will send email updates free of charge, but if you want the txt alert option you can buy txt bundles from within the app (they have to pay for it somehow afterall).

Good idea... if you're in an area with a good signal. Most of the best biking roads are not.

Already have a tracker that reports via SMS to a server with mapping/routing software. Costs $20 a year though for the SMS SIM/plan. You can set it to geofence etc. FYI, if you don't want it used as evidence, just have it report every 5-15 minutes and when you come to a stop.

Which means you just won't be able to check in if you're running late. OTOH, if you're unable to check in at all, the SMS\emails get sent from the server end, regardless of signal or condition of your phone.

I know a pretty girl at work but she won't go out with me. Downloaded the app on to an old phone and 'dropped' it in her car the other day. Now I know where she lives and when she is home. And I can follow her when she goes out for the day.

Exactly, It aint hard to read a map!! What next? An APP to tell you which is your left shoe, and which is the right?

The best one has to be the rider who wanted a Gps to ride SH1 from Auckland to Taupo.
