    What to look for in a '94 Ducati M900?

    After Mel sitting on and comparing a VTR250 and a M900 to her CBR400 she is keen on the monster...

    Her body language said it all from the time she sat on the bike until well after getting off, She has said everything felt natural for her from levers too pegs, and the monster felt a lot lighter than her CBR even though its 20kg heavier signs of a well balanced bike.

    So what should I be looking for in this bike....

    I am already aware of looking into following

    - Coils and Reg/rec (signs of over heating),
    - Head studs (have herd that they are known to break),
    - Tank Hinge for signs of stress and rust,
    - Shims & Belts
    - Headstock bearings,
    - Brake rotors,

    I am not worried about
    - wheel bearings,
    - tyres, brake-pads,
    - chain & Sprockets,
    - filters or fluids,
    As these are basic consumables & I tend to budget too replace these on any second hand bike I buy..

    Any common frame / suspension faults I should be looking for ?

    Any advice welcome...

    Shite!! That bike is nearly 20 years old. Anything that should be looked at due to model deficiencies should already have been taken care of. You don't mention the mileage. Belts are every 20k km and valves every 10k. If its due for a service that could add a heap of money but easy to do yourself. You could negotiate the price down if its due.

    Side note....multistrada belts are due every 5 years now rather than 2 now so modern belts can last a lot longer looking to the future. There is a Ducati service bulletin extending all model services somewhere

    Mileage is 27000ks

    I expect shims and belts should have already been done at that mileage and will be seeking proof of it so,

    Old bikes don't bother me as long as there is proof in their history...

    Sweet mate Ducatis are way more reliable than most people give them credit for. The only thing that buggers up after sitting for a long time are internal motor seals and belts that have been sittting for extended periods.......hang on what happens to new bikes that have sat on the shop floor for a couple of years

    27000kms sounds like its been used regularly.. Tell you what ........you dont hear of too many sob stories when it comes to the old monsters.

    Funny what people say about Ducati pricing...when you own Triumphs everything else is cheap.
