    What a ride today

I went out on my bike this morning and bought a pannier full of groceries, dropped them off at home and deceided to take a short ride. I went up the coast road to a pub high up on a point and had a cup of coffe. I was sitting out on the patio overlooking the ocean and everyone was pointing out to sea.

There were two, then three, pods of humpback whales just off the coast. One pod had one whale in it which was broaching, you'd see a few spouts come up and then the grey and white of its body would come out of the water and then there would be a huge splash. One pod came quite close to the sand bar just off the beach, maybe 500 to 700 metres away, and you could see the curve of their backs and their fins as they came up to spout. I watched them for about an hour.

What a day for a bike ride!
