Rego put on hold - but I still had to pay!

Last week I went into the post office to get a new rego for my bike after the rego had been put on hold for the past 6 months. I am selling the bike so I wanted to get a new rego for it before the new owner picked it up.

I was told that there was no record of me putting it on hold and that I had to back pay about 6 months worth of rego. I tried contacting NZ Land Transport Agency but they were really unhelpful - just said that since I didn't have the reciept I had no proof and not a leg to stand on.

I have the bank statement which has the $5.50 fee I paid to have it put on hold, but it only says "NZ Post" for the details.

Has this happened to anyone else before? Apparently the Post Office doesn't have anything to do with the process - they just send the forms off to NZ LTA and they are supposed to process them.

I'll try sending in a complaint but I have already had to pay the whole lot - I had to since I had someone wanting to buy my bike.

Stink. The whole process of having to back pay at all stinks tbh. I always do mine online and get them to send an e-mail receipt, not helpful in your case but might be a good idea in future.

Fee to put on hold? Since when was there a fee to put reg on hold? I suspect that you did something else, like change the end date of reg or similar.

It costs $5.50 to put it on hold if you go through a NZTA agent (like the Post Office). http://nzta.govt.nz/vehicle/registra...administration if you don't believe me.

It was the first time that I had to pay this fee too - I remember doing it free the last couple of times I had put it on hold.

I think the problem is he didn't pay (it's the point of putting it on hold you see), but now has to cos some other dude wants it rego'd.

What was I supposed to do dickhead? Not sell my bike and miss out on 11k or spend a few hundred to get it sold?

Never said I wanted to get the money back either. Just wanted to know if this had happened to anyone else before. So maybe you should try reading the original post first.

    Rego on hold.
When I came over to Darwin in 2007 I put both my TL1000S's on hold, doing the same a year later online.
The next time I went to do the same it was not possible,a NZ address had to be available,I replied to the email response that I was not in New Zealand send any paper work to my Australian address at my expense, not possible was the answer.
Who knows what happened there its some four years + ago,I guess I will see if I tried to export them to AU.

I put my Ducati 900 SD on hold once, when I went to re register it they told me it had never been on hold and the original black plate would need to be replaced (white),I then showed them the paper work from Onehunga testing station that was current and in order,to bad not in the system was the reply.
Phoning the appropriate authority and offering to send a scan of the paper work was met with a no.

I went to register my 78 CBX once after it had been out of registration for six months only to be told it had not been registered for some eighteen months.
I showed them the plate only to be told it was a trailer (wtf?) sticker
Original black plate gone, new white one needed.

In NSW if your registration is expired for more than three months and you have not handed the plates in (a storage fee is incurred) you then need to have a new blue slip inspection and a reissue of plates.

If you follow the system by the letter it normally works out,at least in New Zealand they give you a break when registering old motorcycles.
