Yeah, I had an 86 dr600 last year whilst working in France. Bought as a cheap substitute for my dr650 but in many ways it was a better bike!
They come as standard with a big tank, rear rack, bash plate and pretty good suspension. Terrible front brake though and very strangled engine as stock - like the newer 650. No leccy start but the kicker is easy with the de compressor.
Got mine with 33,000kms on the clock as a light road use only bike for 900 euro's, about 1800 nz so wish I'd filled a container with them (no shortage of big traillies in France!) if they fetch $1700 for 2 snotters.....

Just Between you and me XR's were rubbish offroad unless you were in wide open spaces (will delete this post soon)

Though I do remember passing Shawn Stanbridge's RM125 down a metal road in a Hare&Hound and it would have been all of 2 minutes in the dirt stuff before he got me back, a polite waves of mutual respect with the NZ Champ as I moved over for him (arh glory days)

them some fighting words mate, ya better watch ya back

i think farm land and vmx is wide open enough for me

my DR500 (to me) felt better off road than my mates XR but it didnt have the power of the XR plus the XR seem to be a lot less viby, loved the 23inch front

Updated my previous post just temper comments.

XLs were better in slow stuff as the XR500 would flame out and stall at slow speed once moving they were fine if not a touch slow steering due to 23" but super
    stable

In Hare scrambles in Woodhill XR5 was a match for non pro riden YZ250's of the day (though In fairness I weighed about 65kgs and could easily lift my body weight back then)
