dont understand the 6 speed in the 500, theres enough torque to put in taller gearing for the highway and the balancer.... would be like riding a chainsaw with those vibes

Don't see why you would put a gear set that is built for a 250cc motor into a 500cc engine that is just asking for a failure in a Bad way !

Plenty of the 250 boxes layin around,, 500ones all knackered. 500's without balancers not a good idea!

All the above reason being why I snubbed that bike even though I'm desperate to get my hands on one (but only a goodun)

O well will play 2 stroke in the mean time for a while (performance is similar as we rode together yesterday)

None of my 5 - 500's have had or got any problem with their 5spd trans ..... The only way to do the job right with removing the balancers out of a XR or XL 500's is to fully balance all major moving parts then you should be good to go

Not a bad looking bike all the same. As long as the original gear box is included it could be put back to stock. $3k though... sounds like a lot to me.

I've seen more than one with the front sprocket welded to the shaft...
I had an 81 500 that broke a couple of teeth from the clutch gear and took the primary gear with it. KERBLAMMO!!!

Its like everything if you treat it right & run the right oil in your big singles with a least 2800+ PPM zinc you shouldn't have to much trouble .... But as above things don't always go this way & failures are the result this goes for almost anything

I was quite surprised actually, will go with low and Viby, but this one had power to burn, I think the low weight is what gives that impression,(My DRBIG is about another 50kg) it did have a 510 piston and I'm unsure what compression it was but she was more torquey than I expected and wheelied as easy as I remember them to

I liked it a lot and once personalised to how I like things would make one awesome ADV bike, even if for nostalger alone
