Freight forwarding from USA. Any recommendations?

I'm considering using a freight forwarding service from the USA as some stuff for my bike can't be bought in NZ and isn't shipped outside of USA. Has anyone ever used frieght forwarding and if so, could you recommend any particular companies/people?

People have reported good experience with Youshop, a service from NZ Post.

I used some random service a few years ago, and Youshop (through NZ post) recently. I would highly recommend Youshop - every aspect is done right, and easy to contact if something goes wrong. Mayyybe not the cheapest but not unreasonable.

I've used comgateway with no worries. Prices seemed reasonable compared with other options. The NZ post one looks to have similar rates though so I might try them next time I decline KTM NZ's offer to rip me off for parts

I've used Youshop several times but do use their freight calculator to give you an idea of the costs involved. In my experience it's very expensive.

My plan B is usually just to shop around for another supplier that will freight to NZ.

One thing to be careful of is the insurance. I used www.prezoom.com to ship a laptop from the states. Only when it got lost did I go back and carefully read the Ts & Cs. Their standard cover was only $100. I was supposed to arrange my own. I hadn't even thought of insurance as usually the seller is responsible for shipping. In this case however, the merchant had successfully shipped it to PreZoom so was not liable. They eventually found the package about 6 weeks later so it all turned out OK, but I could have been $3K out of pocket.

For large motorcycle parts, wheels, bodywork, radiator etc, Foytts (www.foytt.com) based in LA have been extremely helpful and reasonably priced on two separate occasions. Pete Tate was extremely straightforward to deal with, and they delivered when they said they would, for the price they said they would.

For small stuff mostly from Amazon on etc, I have been using USAbox (www.usabox.com) for about 10 years; they are based in Miami and have shipped stuff for me when I was in Russia, Asia, and now New Zealand. $20US a month plus the price of shipping, and they repack stuff to save money on weight. They have never in all that time lost a parcel, and again they are straightforward to deal with.
