Canterbury Trail Rides?

Beautiful valley was not the fun I anticipated. It was a slippery, greasy mudfest., as soon as we left the carpark. Nothing wrong with that, but if you know Beautiful valley, you will know it has some steep clay climbs out of gullies and in particular, quite a few very steep clay downhills. I started pretty early, worked my way though the slippery slop and headed towards the forestry. Riding at pensioner pace, I could not understand why I was not being overtaken by people and it was so quiet! Turns out the climbs at the start were just carnage and people were very slow to get through! Disappointingly, the cool enduros through the forestry had been logged. I even used the kiddy bypass at one stage when there was a queue of people going backwards when they could not get through a section on the main loop. I did not even consider any of the remaining enduros: they were for the truly brave and experts. I was one loop and done but it was a big turnout considering all the other rides on on Sunday.

Last time I did Beautiful valley it was anything but, even with a weeks dry weather the big clay uphill's were still shit, then I had a heart attack and got helicoptered out which was the best part of the day

Apparently Waiau Saturday was a muddy mess and they shortened the track up and rerouted it on the day

Waiau on Sunday wasn't really X Trainer territory so you didn't miss much there, it was fast open flowing country and while a little slippery was on the easier side, bailed early though after Fluffy's bike which had been running the day before failed to start once up there and I had a minor bike issue and a bad case of CBF

I saw a couple of Waiau clips from saturday on You Tube. At least Beautiful Valley was not raining!

It was a bad Sparkplug Cap! and of all the spares I had in my Van I didn't have one spare Cap! Shows I have not been out dirt Biking in along time. but even after replacing the Cap at home. I was shocked at how weak the spark power was. So I was not surprised to find when I looked my model up the first time that what came up was after market ign kits. I think I may have to get one.

I like the NGK blue silicone ones. Resist water and are vibration resistant.

A mate helped with new tyres on the Beta. Thumb hurt on last ride not up to struggling with tyres.
Got an X31 to replace the X30 on front, and got talked into a Mitas super soft of a model I've not seen before for rear. Apparently works well in all conditions so said ok.

Only thing is as a 120/90 it makes the bike a bit taller. Fortunately it isn't a tall bike to begin with. Look forward to trying. Sadly Trig this weekend my thumb isn't right.
2 more weeks and Berm Buster.

Um rear is Terraforce.,super soft. Sadly can't ride dirtbike tomorrow. Guys texting about pieshop on way up. Waaa!

While I am on here. As anyone used the truBliss tubes? What do you think of them?

And I think I will get a A/M Ign for my Husqvarna WR300 2010 as I think the Cap is what broke the camel's back and the Italian Ign is braking down as it is very hard to start now even with a new Cap.

I have Tubliss in the Beta at about 4psi, works great but a bit dependent on what tyres and what kind of terrain

Don't bother with the ignition put that money towards something with electric start

So we'll go to the Waimak on the weekend ?

Been a convert to tubliss for many years. Apparently feels funny in the front but 4-5 in the rear gives you an unfair advantage in hill climbs.

Bloody Hell! I took the your Beta for a blast around the start/finish paddock and all I thought about the handling was it was great! I am sold! next time I get tyres I will look into them.

I am Keen on a ride at the Waimak. I just don't know if the Husqvarna will play ball with the currant Ign set up but I am willing to give it a go.
