The TLS back on the Track.

November ’04 was my last trip to the track!

My morning was spent waiting to get my new tires mounted. They were done by time the rider’s meeting was over so then it was a race back to put them back on the bike. I had a bit of time since another ride group was going before mine.

White group was filled to the brim. A little to full for my liking. Still, I was on a fresh set of tires and didn’t need to be setting a personal best time in the morning anyway. Nothing to exciting to report on my end for the first half of the day. Actually, the second half wasn’t that event filled (for me) either but things did speed up.

OK… Fine, I did manage to stuff a control rider and damn near repeat my off road excursion I did last year. This time I was in the frame of mind to reevaluate how I took that part of the track (between T3 and T4) and it wasn’t a problem after that. As we were lined up for the next session she (the CR) came over and had a little talk with me. I felt about 6” tall and apologized profusely for that error in judgment. She was very cool because she had every right to be pissed but wasn’t in any way.

The last run of the day I ended up cutting short but by only a few laps. I had set into a grove behind a FZR and like the pace he set. Then a rider went down in T1, a Buel lost the motor just before T5 (no oil thank God) and I decided to pass the FZR. I went into T1 a bit lazy and slid the rear a bit, and then totally F’d up the carrousel (T6, 7 & 8) so I lifted my arm and called it a day.

I saw this shot the photographer took of me being a squid and had to have it.


It’s funny how miles and miles of street wear on the tires can’t compare to a day at the track. Front / Rear

Hey BC, good to hear you're back up and running now mate, TL's looking mint as ever, try not to do a repeat huh. Speaking of TL's might go pick my one up today, just fitted the new headlight and are close to putting the finishing touches on it , take care BC, one day i'll get my arse over to Oz with the bike in tow for a track day , or can i borrow yours (the storys aren't ture dont believe them)

After this last track day I have come to the realization that I've built a nice street bike that should stay on the street and pick up something else for the track... We'll see what next year brings.

That TL looks sorted now mate and from the pic of the rear it looks like the suspension is doing it's job

You're right on the street bike side of things, the TL can do the bizzo alright on the track but it's not quite there, so what GSXR you gonna get next year.

I maybe slightly bias towards GSXR's, as for the zx12 ask Death INC bout that, he quite quickly squash any thoughts that they handle well, yes they do for the type of bike they are, but they will never come close to a sports bike. And ZX10R's are the bizzo i like them a fair bit and they are prolly the only other litre four i'd want to own.

LB, in the states mate... If I had my way GSXR750 ('04+) would be the weapon of choice.

Though a TLR would be something familiar and I know enough to get it set up right. Then I've been eyeballing a RS250 as well... mmm... decisions, decisions, decisions... At the end of the day it will come down to availability and funds (or lack thereof).
