    Avons Avons and Avons

I have always loved the Avon tyres and still love them, fitting them to my GSXR750F model, yes the one that has a very bad habit when it comes to behaving itself on the track........ anyway, I have just read in performance bike the results of their tyre tests and guess what the Avon 3D ultra came in second only to the rosso corsa for their lap times test.......get hold of a copy and read it for your selves it is a good read, they tested 8 brands of sporty tyres on the road and track.
I am sticking to the 18" rims fitting AM22s and 23s.

Go you Avons you little beauties

trying the T30's at the moment on my Blackbird have always used Avon Storms but thought I would try these as I haven't been back to Bridgestones since I put on a pair of 021's not much $$$ differance between the 2 but I think I'll be going back to the storms as the T30 is NOT miles apart from the Avon. Seems to be wearing OK but their not stand out tyres so go back to the tried & proven
I Used to jog but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass

Whats this?? Performance bike you say??
    Pretty good credentials there then.
Have used them exclusively on my Hayabusa for road and track riding.
No complaints here at all. If they bought out a race slick, I would use that on my race bike.
Most people go with the brand names they know, nothing wrong with that.
There will be some that have a gripe against them, but that is the case probably with all the major tyre brands.
    Each to their own.
But I too have heard good things about the 3D Ultras.
When you finish with that mag.............

Avons? English tyres- most likely leak air!

Used them decades back with success. Magazines say they are making a comeback.

I find brands like Avon poorly supported in NZ, maybe they need a big promotion by means of $ reduction. I've a set of new T30's in the shed waiting on the death of my rear Conti RA2 - at $399 a pair I was in!

Totally agree, Avon should be doing more promotion work as it is under rated by a lot of riders......... and as for a $ reduction I would buy another set for the gsx1400 at the drop of a hat, I wonder if the importer would agree?

I'm pretty sure the 1st gen Storms were introduced to NZ at a very good price for a short period of time some years back as I just missed out when looking for new hoops.

A 'rebate' would work well I think - buy two get a $XX rebate. The dealer still makes his margin and the importer sends the rebate and makes more coin on higher volume sales.

It must be a hard grind getting a slightly unfamiliar brand popular in NZ as given the cost of tyres one tends to stick to brands that have been proven on your ride as it is a expensive mistake if you don't like them.

I used Avons for years and YEARS until the last set of Storms. The front one wore badly, with a step in the profile after only a month or so. It was a real pain - I'd tip the VFR in to a corner, lean a bit more, then it would hit the step and feel like it had let go. Shortly after that, it WAS letting go, so despite it still being near-new, I went in and had the Avons taken off and a set of Michelins put on. Best thing I'd done to the bike since the suspension upgrade. The Michelins (Pilot Sport front, Pilot Road2 rear) piss all over the Avons for handling, grip, and feel. After swearing by the Avons, I'm now sworn off them. Never again.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

That is a pity mate, is this the first time you had trouble with the Avons?? as you have used them for years and years.

    Cheers Pete
